Meet AIR 304 Ajay Kumar, Who Cracked UPSC CAPF AC 2023 with Hindi Medium

Hello everyone, I’m Ajay Kumar, and I’m thrilled to share my journey with you. I secured All India Rank 304 in the UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant exam, and it has been quite a beautiful Journey. I still remember the day the results were announced. My Friend told me about my selection and Name in the PDF, Seeing my rank as 304 felt unbelievable. I couldn’t help but scream with joy, and my house echoed with my excitement. My family, who have always been my biggest supporters, celebrated with me. It was an incredible moment of happiness.

My father, who always emphasized the importance of education, had cracked RAS Prelims but couldn’t join for some reasons. I am proud to have fulfilled his dream by securing a position in the CAPF AC. His encouragement and support throughout my preparation, my journey more memorable. Additionally, my elder brother, who serves in the Delhi Police, has been a constant source of inspiration and support.

I graduated in 2019. It took me 5 years to be here and live my dream. In 2021, I started with just 87 marks in Paper 1 of the UPSC CAPF Exam. I knew I needed to improve, so I worked hard. By the next year, I boosted my Paper 1 score to 140, but Paper 2 was still a struggle with only 27 marks.

Realizing the importance of Paper 2, I changed my approach. I began adding factual data, Numbers, and Quotations to my answers. My tablet became an essential tool for researching and making notes. I practiced writing essays on topics like women’s issues, using data and current affairs. Reading editorials and noting down important points became part of my daily routine.

To excel in the grammar section of the UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant exam, start by studying last year’s and previous year’s questions to understand the common types and patterns of grammar questions. By Focusing on key areas such as question tags, active and passive voice, and pronouns and  analyzing these topics thoroughly and practice regularly by writing essays or paragraphs that incorporate these grammar rules.

For history, I relied on NCERT textbooks from classes 6 to 12. Regular revisions and studying basic science from NCERT books of classes 8, 9, and 10 were crucial. For polity, I used Laxmikanth’s book.

One of the key changes I made was focusing on detailed and effective note-making. I read editorials, particularly from the Jansatta newspaper, to enhance my Hindi language and writing skills. I covered all editorial sections, which greatly helped in preparing for Paper 2. Additionally, I compiled month-wise summaries of current events and government schemes, which turned out to be incredibly useful.

As a Hindi medium student, improving my language skills was essential. I worked on expanding my vocabulary by reading formal content and using transcripts for preparation. Mock interviews with friends helped me overcome my fear of speaking and become comfortable with the interview process.
