The Asia Cup stands as a unique event in global sports, centered around competition exclusively among nations from a single continent. India has consistently stood out, reaching an impressive 11 finals out of the total 16 (participating in 15 editions, having skipped once). Out of these 16 editions, India has clinched victory and lifted the trophy on eight occasions, showcasing their dominance in the tournament.
And from the remaining, Sri Lanka won 5 and Pakistan took the cup home twice. Initially, it was a competition among three countries but later on Asia Cup expanded to become a six-team tournament today. They are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
It is considered to be a flexible tournament as its style changes as per the schedule of other big tournaments, for example, Since 2008, it’s been organised every alternate year and from 2016 onwards, it held between ODI’s and T20’s alternatively according to any upcoming big-ticket cricket tournament. This was the 16th edition of the Asia Cup.

Of course, two years — 2020 and 2021 — were impacted the due to Covid-19 pandemic. Scheduled from August 30 to September 17, 2023, the Asia Cup 2023, a cricket tournament featuring six nations, was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The inaugural match was set for August 30, 2023, featuring Pakistan against Nepal in Multan, Pakistan. The final match of this prestigious event was held on September 17, 2023 between India and Sri Lanka.
