Captain Deeksha Woman Medical Officer in Parachute Regiment

Captain Deeksha C Mudadevannanavar, a doctor in the Indian army, becomes the first woman officer to be commissioned into an elite special forces of the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army. She hails from Davangere in Karnataka.

Captain Deeksha always excelled in her career. In October 2019, She was commissioned into the Indian Army’s MH Golconda through Short Service Commission (SSC) entry. She was in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and after getting commissioned, Captain Deeksha went for rigorous training in MOBC at the Army Medical Corps Center in Lucknow, which is a foundation course for the officers of the Indian Army’s Medical Corps.

After clearing the first stage of the course, Captain Deeksha got her posting at 303 Field Hospital in Leh’s Tangtse. In the past, Captain Deeksha tried joining the Parachute Regiment but she failed twice. As per the records, She got conferenced out on the first attempt due to her weak physical stamina. But with the motivational support of her Commanding Officer Colonel Shivesh Singh, she kept trying. But Unluckily again, In her second attempt, She got an injury due to which she could not make it to the Parachute Regiment.

But with her strong grit and determination, the lady quickly recovered and got back into the competition. Finally, the day came in December 2022 when Captain Deeksha made it through the selection process of Paratrooper and make a way for herself in the Special Forces.

Captain gave an official statement in which she mentioned, “Before joining the army I was in NCC,”. “There I was inspired by the soldiers, the discipline, the adventurous lifestyle,” Captain Deeksha further added. The woman officer specially mentioned her mentor Colonel Bindu Nair and said. “She inspired me to join Para,” Captain Deeksha said while talking about her first attempt to get selected in 2021. She further added “As a medical officer, one of the biggest challenges was (that) I couldn’t afford to be sick,”
