The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 27th July 2023, celebrated its 85th Raising Day, acknowledging and honoring the force’s extraordinary and unmatched dedication in safeguarding the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the nation. As India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, the CRPF functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

CRPF’s 85th Raising Day, Several Events Were Arranged

On the occasion of its 85th Raising Day, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is commemorating the sacrifices made by its martyrs and reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation. In observance of this significant milestone, the CRPF has organized a range of events and activities to honor the brave personnel.

• The events include various ceremonies, parades, and social initiatives to pay tribute to the brave personnel and highlight the CRPF’s significant role in safeguarding the nation’s unity and sovereignty.
• These gatherings also serve as an opportunity to showcase the dedication and commitment of the force towards their duty and responsibilities.
• As the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrates its 85th Raising Day, it is honoring the sacrifices of its martyrs and reiterating its persistent dedication to safeguarding the nation.
• A solemn ceremony of laying garlands, and the organization of a blood donation camp.
• These events serve as a tribute to the brave personnel who have laid down their lives in service to the country and reflect the CRPF’s continued commitment to protecting the nation and its citizens.

History of CRPF

CRPF was established before independence. CRPF is the only paramilitary force in the country that deviates from its original date of formation.

• The CRPF is one of the oldest Central ParaMilitary Forces of India, originally formed on 27 July 1939 as the “Crown Representative’s Police”.
• After independence, the “Crown Representative’s Police” was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on 28 December 1949. Central Reserve Police Force has completed 84 years of glorious history.
• The CRPF was established in 1936 following the Madras Resolution of the All India Congress Committee in response to political unrest and agitations in the then princely states of India and the wishes of the Crown Representative to preserve law and order in India.
• In the context of the 1962 Indo-China war, the CRPF demonstrated its support to the Indian Army by offering assistance in Arunachal Pradesh.
• Moreover, during the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971, the CRPF played a crucial role by providing unwavering support to the Indian Army on both the Western and Eastern borders.
• In these conflicts, the CRPF stood side by side with the Indian Army, offering their dedicated service and commitment to defending the nation.

CRPF performs various duties for internal security in the country such as:

• Crowd and Riot Control.
• Deal with Insurgency Operations.
• Tackling Left Wing Extremism.
• Establishing security arrangements during elections in disturbed areas.
• Security of VIPs and important establishments.
• To check environmental de-gradation and preservation of local flora and fauna.
• Rescue and relief operations during natural calamities.
