About Defence minister Rajnath Singh

Born in the rural village of Bhabhuara, Uttar Pradesh, on July 10, 1951, Rajnath Singh hailed from a family of farmers. His educational journey led him to achieve a master’s degree in physics from Gorakhpur University. Subsequently, he embarked on a career as a physics lecturer at K.B. Post-Graduate College in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.

In his role as Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh is committed to enhancing the participation of Nari-Shakti (women power) in the armed forces and has initiated several programs toward this goal. He is a steadfast believer in India’s potential and spirit, driven by the determination to see India reclaim its title as VISWAGURU.

Role of the Defence Minister

The Defence Minister of India is responsible for the country’s defence policies, which include the armed forces, defence production, research and development, and procurement. The Ministry of Defence, which is headed by the Defence Minister, oversees the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, and other defence-related organizations. Rajnath Singh’s tenure as Defence Minister

Rajnath Singh, a seasoned politician and a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, assumed office as India’s Defence Minister on May 31, 2019, succeeding Nirmala Sitharaman. Since assuming office, Rajnath Singh has taken several steps to modernize the Indian armed forces and strengthen India’s defence capabilities.

One of the key initiatives taken by Rajnath Singh was the creation of a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) position. The CDS is responsible for integrating the operations of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, and streamlining the procurement of weapons and equipment. This move has been hailed as a major reform in India’s defence sector and is expected to enhance the country’s military preparedness.

Another important initiative taken by Rajnath Singh was the induction of the first batch of five Rafale fighter jets into the Indian Air Force. The Rafale is a state-of-the-art aircraft that is expected to bolster India’s air defence capabilities. Rajnath Singh also inaugurated the new headquarters of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Delhi, which is expected to enhance the organization’s research capabilities and promote indigenous defence production.

In addition to these initiatives, Rajnath Singh has taken several measures to promote indigenization and self-reliance in India’s defence sector. He launched the Defence India Startup Challenge to encourage startups to develop innovative defence technologies and also announced the Atmanirbhar Bharat Defence Innovation Challenge to promote indigenous defence production. He has also stressed the need for defence modernization and equipment upgrades and has called for the private sector to play a more active role in defence production.
