Exercise Cyber Suraksha was conducted from May 20 to May 24 2024 in New Delhi. The Exercise was also attended by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan on May 22 2024 where he highlighted the importance of strengthening India’s cyber defence capabilities.
The objective of the exercise was to advance the Cyber Defense Capability of all cybersecurity entities and fostering cohesion among stakeholders. The exercise prioritizes bolstering cooperation and cohesion among participants hailing from diverse military and prominent national institutions and organizations.
What Is Defence Cyber Agency?
The Defence Cyber Agency is an integrated tri-services agency of the Indian Armed Forces. It is Headquartered in New Delhi, the agency is entrusted with handling cyber security threats. The Personnel of Defence Cyber Agency are recruited from three branches of Indian Armed Forces. The head of the DCyA is an officer of two-star rank, and reports to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) through the Integrated Defence Staff. to protect and defend the Defence Forces Information and Communication Technology assets, and deter adversary’s attempts at cyber warfare.
Aims and Objective of Exercise Cyber Suraksha 2024
- It aims to develop Cyber Defence Capability of all Cyber security organisations and promote synergy amongst all stakeholders.
- It focusses on enhancing collaboration and integration among participants from various military and prominent national organizations.
- It highlighted the need of jointness among all stakeholders in the cyber domain and praised the initiative for fostering a collaborative environment to tackle emerging cyber threats.
- To empower participants by enhancing their cyber defence skills, techniques and capabilities.
- To share best practices, and work towards a unified and robust cyber defence posture.
- To promote jointmanship and synergy in planning and preparation of a a Cyber Defence Framework.
The event reaffirms the commitment of the Indian Armed Forces to safeguard National Security in the increasingly important cyber domain. It will increase synergy between cyber groups and National cyber agencies. Cyber Defence Exercise will improve defensive measures to protect data using hardened technology, effective monitoring, safe practices, improved user awareness, standardized processes and audit measures. Such Exercise help to prepare better to respond to cyber warfare, with cohesive response for incidents using centralized threat databases, libraries and incident records.
