IAF conducted a successful trial of Airdropping ‘Aarogya Maitri Disaster Cubes’ from C-130 Hercules Aircraft using specially made parachutes from 1500 feet by the (ADRDE) Air Delivery Research and Development Establishment in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The objective was to evaluate how well portable hospitals could be set up throughout the nation in an emergency.
It is a component of Project – BHISHMA (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri) which is India’s Health Initiative for Cooperation Interest and Friendship. The study was conducted in collaboration with Army Para Field Hospital and Air Marshal Rajesh Vaidya.
What is Project BHISHMA?
Project Bhishma was announced by PM Narendra Modi at the Global South Summit. Under which India will provide essential medical supplies to any developing country affected by Natural Disaster or Humanitarian Crisis. The initiative was taken by the Ministry of Defence.
Key Features of Aarogya Maitri Disaster Cubes
- It is portable and can be airlifted to War areas, Remote Areas and Disaster prone Areas.
- It is the world’s First portable disaster hospital.
- It includes Mini ICU, Cooking Station, X-Ray Machines, Blood Test kit, Operation Theater, Food, Water Shelter, Power Generator and much more.
- It includes three frames, each accommodating 12 mini cubes.
- The design allows joining two cages- including 72 cubes in total.
- It is a Rapid Disaster Portable Hospital which can give assistance to 200 injured people.
- It has a tent and is able to handle multiple injuries.
- All of the equipment are rechargeable and the kit contains a portable generator, including a Solar panel based generator.
- It can be used in the need of medical support due to epidemics, in high elevations, or in challenging landscapes.
- It can be airlifted to the disaster area and can be assembled within an hour.
- India will supply necessary Aarogya Maitri Disaster Cubes to developing countries in the times of Natural Disaster and Humanitarian crisis.
- Out of the 72 cubes, 60 will remain the same and 12 will keep changing according to type of disaster.
