Established in 1922, the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) holds a prominent position as a Group ‘A’ service under the Central Government of India. It serves a crucial role in overseeing the financial management of the nation’s defense forces. The IDAS is responsible for ensuring effective financial planning, accountability, and transparency within the defense sector. Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS)- Training
Upon selection by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), candidates undergo comprehensive training at various centers across India to prepare them for their roles as Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) officers.
The training begins with foundation training, which takes place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. This training lasts for a period of 4-6 months and is conducted alongside candidates from the All India Services.
Following the completion of foundation training, the candidates proceed to the next phase, known as induction training. This training is conducted at CENTRAD, located in New Delhi. It equips the candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills specific to their roles as IDAS officers.
A specialized training session in financial management is then conducted at the Professional Training Course in Faridabad, further enhancing the candidates’ expertise in their field.
The final phase of training is the departmental training, which takes place at the National Academy of Defence Financial Management Institute situated in Pune. This phase focuses on honing the candidates’ skills and knowledge related to defense financial management.
The overall duration of the training program spans approximately two years. After successfully passing the departmental examination, the candidates are confirmed as junior IDAS officers, placed on a particular time scale grade, and ready to begin their professional journey within the IDAS.
