Educational Qualifications
Candidates applying for enrolment as Agniveers in the Indian Navy must have passed the Matriculation Examination from Boards of School Education recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Shortlisting of the candidates will take place on the marks scored in the 10th Exam.
Age Limit
Candidates should be born between 01 Nov 2003 and 30 Apr 2007 (both dates inclusive) to be eligible for enrolment. The age limit of candidates should be between 17 to 20 Years old.
Marital Status
Only unmarried male and unmarried female candidates are eligible. They must provide a certificate of being ‘unmarried’ at the time of enrolment. Agniveers are not allowed to marry during their entire four-year tenure in the Indian Navy. Any candidate found married during this period will face dismissal from service.
Musical Ability
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency and aptitude for music, including accuracy in tempo, pitch, and singing a complete song. They should also possess practical skill on any instrument of Indian or foreign origin, with proficiency in instrument tuning, matching unknown notes, prepared piece, sight reading of Indian Classical/Tabulature/Staff Notation, performance of Scale/Raaga/Taala, and basic theory of Indian or International music.
Type of Instruments on which Proficiency Required.
The candidates would be required to perform with expertise on one or more instruments such as Keyboard/ String/ Wind instruments/ Drum Kit (minimum 7 piece set) or any other instrument of Indian or foreign origin. Candidates performing on indefinite pitch instruments such as Bass Drum, Snare Drums, Side Drums, Cymbals, Non Chromatic instruments such as bugle & monotone instruments used to produce only one note or drone will not be eligible for recruitment.
Selection Process
The Selection Process will be conducted in 2 Stages. No Written exam will be conducted, instead candidates will be shortlisted on the marks of 10th Standard.
Shortlisting of candidates
Candidates are initially shortlisted based on their marks in the matriculation examination. Only candidates with valid music certificates (Degree/Diploma/Grade/Certificate of Competitions) are considered. Grades in the matriculation certificate must be converted to marks using the approved conversion formula provided by the respective board. If the number of shortlisted candidates exceeds vacancies due to similar percentages in matriculation, those with earlier dates of birth (lesser chances for recruitment) are prioritized.
Stage I – Preliminary Screening
- Shortlisted candidates receive a call-up letter for Stage I, which includes:
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
- Music Screening Test
- Recruitment Medical Examination
- Candidates must qualify PFT and the Preliminary Music Test to proceed to the Recruitment Medical Examination.
- Stage I is tentatively scheduled for August 2024.
Physical Fitness Test Standards

- Male: 1.6 km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds, 20 squats, 15 pushups, 15 bent knee sit-ups
- Female: 1.6 km run in 8 minutes, 15 squats, 10 pushups, 10 bent knee sit-ups
Medical Examination
- Candidates who pass the Music Screening Test and PFT undergo a medical examination.
- Medical fitness is crucial for selection.
- Candidates found medically unfit may appeal at designated Military Hospitals within 5 days.
- Medical fitness certificates from non-designated hospitals are not accepted.
Stage II – Final Screening
- Candidates qualifying Stage I proceed to Stage II – Final Screening.
- This includes further evaluation and selection at INS Kunjali, Colaba, Mumbai.
Merit List
A merit list will be prepared from all the candidates who qualify in Final
Screening in all respects depending upon vacancies. The Merit list will be available on
candidate dashboard on website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in by Oct 24.
Final Medical Examination and Reporting.
Selected Candiates have to report at INS Chilka where the Final Medical Examination will be conducted of the selected students.
Salary and Perks
Agniveers will be paid a package of ₹30,000 per month with a fixed yearly increment. The In-hand Salary of Agniveers is 21000 in the first year which will increase up to 28,000 by the 4th Year. In addition to the salary, Agniveers will recieve Insurance Cover, Disability Compensation, and Death Compensation.

Contribution to Corpus Fund
Contribution by Agniveer (30%): The amount contributed by the Agniveer from their monthly package to the Agniveer Corpus Fund. Over the 4-year tenure, each Agniveer contributes a total of Rs 5.02 lakh to the Agniveer Corpus Fund.
