INS Vagir Submarine commissioned by Indian Navy

INS Vagir is a Scorpene-class diesel-electric submarine built under Project 75 by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, India. The submarine was launched on November 12, 2020, and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 4, 2021, in a ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Features of INS Vagir

The submarine has been named after the Sand Fish, a predatory fish found in the Indian Ocean. It is the sixth submarine of the Scorpene class to be commissioned by the Indian Navy. The Scorpene class submarines are known for their stealth, speed, and advanced capabilities, including anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare.

INS Vagir has a length of 67.5 meters and a height of 12.3 meters. It has a displacement of 1,550 tonnes and is capable of operating at a depth of 300 meters. The submarine is powered by diesel-electric propulsion and has a top speed of 20 knots when submerged.
