A video from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has gone viral on social media which erupted a huge controversy in which several students wearing NCC uniform can be seen raising “Nara-e-Takhdeer, Allah-hu-Akhbar”, and “AMU Jindabad,” slogans in Republic Day celebration.

In the viral video, students, clad in the uniform of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), are purportedly heard raising the slogan after the hoisting of the Tricolour on campus, outside Strachey Hall. The slogans were raised after some NCC cadets chanted ‘Vande Mataram’ slogans.

Taking cognizance of the video, the local police have demanded the University to take necessary action. Aligarh SP City Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said the university has been directed to take cognisance of the incident. As per his statement, “A video from AMU has gone viral in which students in NCC uniforms are hard chanting a religious slogan. The university has been directed to take cognisance of the matter.

The AMU proctor assured appropriate action against the students raising the religious slogan. “Further action will be taken after the investigation. The police have also gathered information about the incident,” “All national festivals are celebrated with great pomp in the university,” Wasim Ali said.
A three-member inquiry committee has been set up to look into the matter of ‘Naara-E-Takbeer, Allah-Hu-Akbar’ slogans during the Republic Day celebrations.
Subsequently, the university administration also took the action. “A student in NCC uniform, who was seen raising a slogan unbecoming of the occasion placed under suspension with immediate effect pending inquiry,” the university said.
