SSC GD vs Army GD
If we need to know about both SSC GD and Army GD, the first thing that we need to know is that the term GD in both is the same which means General Duty but there are certain differences at different levels which we need to understand. SSC GD
SSC GD stands for the Staff Selection Commission General Duty. It is a national-level exam which is conducted by the recruiting body Staff Selection Commission to recruit eligible 10th Pass candidates for the posts of Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman (General Duty) in the following forces:
- Border Security Force (BSF)
- Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
- Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
- Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
- Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
- National Investigation Agency (NIA)
- Secretariat Security Force (SSF)

SSC GD Constable Salary
The Constable salary in NCB, BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSF, SSB, NIA and riflemen is as tabulated below-

Army GD
GD stands for General Duty. In the army, soldiers have different trades – like clerks, storekeepers, welders, electricians, carpenters etc. These are known as tradesmen. Others who are not specialised in any trade are called as GDs or plain soldiers. Their pay and allowances are lower than the tradesmen. The Indian Army is the exam-conducting authoritative body to release the notification regarding the details of the Indian Army GD.
Although it is considered to be the lowest rank but is a fundamental unit of the Indian army. This rank plays an important role in guarding Indian territory from domestic terrorists and foreign enemies. GD personnel always place their duty first, never give up, maintain their fitness, and discipline, and takes care of themselves and the requirement of equipment. GD soldiers are loyal to their seniors and obey orders with due respect.
Eligibility of Army GD
To apply for the Indian Army GD Recruitment exam, the candidates must possess the following educational qualifications:
- The candidates must have at least a minimum educational qualification of 10th or matriculation passed with an aggregate of 45% and 33% in all the respective subjects from a recognized board.
- The best of the 5 subjects is taken into consideration and an individual must have at least a minimum score of 33 marks out of 100 marks in each subject and a total of 45% in all.
- Age limit for the exam is 17.5 years to 23 years
