WB SSC Recruitment Scam
The Supreme Court on 03 March 2025 has declared the judgement regarding the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) 2016 Notification. The court has cancelled the appointments of a total of 25,753 teachers and other staff recruited through WB SSC Notification 2016. A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjiv Kumar refused to interfere with the High Court decision after noting that the appointments were “vitiated by manipulation and fraud.”
They also stated that “We have gone through the facts. Regarding findings of this case, entire selection process is vitiated by manipulation and fraud and credibility and legitimacy is denuded. No reason to interfere. Tainted candidates must be terminated and appointments were resultant of cheating and thus fraud”
The Supreme Court ruled that among the 25,753 candidates, those previously employed in government departments (excluding tainted ones) can reapply for their jobs without a break in service and will receive increments. The state must complete this process within three months. Additionally, the court directed the state to initiate a fresh selection process within the same timeframe. However, disabled employees have been allowed to retain their jobs on humanitarian grounds.
