IBPS Clerk Selection Process: Preliminary Examination

The first stage in the selection process is the Preliminary Examination (Prelims). This online exam includes three sections: English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Candidates must score above the minimum cutoff in each section to qualify for the Mains Examination. Although Prelims scores do not count towards the final selection, passing this exam is essential to move on to the next stage.

The second stage is the Main Examination (Mains). Candidates who pass the Prelims are eligible for this online exam, which has four sections: General/Financial Awareness, General English, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude. IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern

The IBPS Clerk exam pattern consists of two phases: Preliminary and Mains. The Preliminary exam evaluates candidates’ basic knowledge in English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Those who qualify progress to the Mains exam, which assesses a wider range of topics, including Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and General/Financial Awareness. Both exams are objective-type with multiple-choice questions, testing candidates’ speed, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.

Candidates must pass each of the three sections of the IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam by scoring the minimum cut-off marks set by IBPS. A sufficient number of candidates from each category will be shortlisted for the Online Main Examination based on these requirements. IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern

The IBPS Clerk 2024 exam pattern remains unchanged. The Mains Exam consists of 190 questions to be answered in 160 minutes. Previously, Computer Aptitude and Reasoning Ability were separate sections, but they are now combined. Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both Online Preliminary and Online Main examinations): There will be a penalty for incorrect answers in the Objective Type Tests. For each wrong answer, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted from the total score. If a question is left blank with no answer marked, no penalty will be applied.
