Lakhs of candidates prepare for the SSC CGL Exam as it is one of the golden opportunities for them to build a career in the insurance sector. All those candidates who are preparing for the SSC CGL 2025 Exam must be aware of its Selection Process. SSC CGL Selection Process comprises multiple stages such as: Tier 1 and Tier 2. So today in this post, we have come up with the complete SSC CGL Selection Process.
SSC CGL Selection Process 2025
- Tier-I: Computer Based Examination
- Tier-II: Computer Based Examination
- Tier II will include conducting Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III in separate shift(s)/ day(s).
- Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts whereas Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
- Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
- Paper I will be conducted in two sessions – Session–I & Session II, on the same day. Session I will include conducting Section I, Section-II, and Module I of Section III. Session II will include conducting Module II of Section III. Therefore, the duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and the duration of Session-II will be 15 minutes only.
SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam Pattern
SSC CGL 2025 Tier-1 exam will be conducted online comprising 4 sections with 100 multiple choice questions in total and with maximum marks of 200.
The sections asked in the SSC CGL Tier-I Exam are:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- General Awareness
- Quantitative Aptitude
- English Comprehension

SSC CGL Tier-2 Exam Pattern (Revised)
SSC CGL Tier-2 exam will be conducted in 3 phases- Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. Paper I (Compulsory for all posts), Paper-II for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, and Paper III for candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.
SSC CGL Document Verification
After qualifying Tier 1 and Tier 2, candidates will have to appear for Document Verification, wherein their personal information will be verified. The SSC CGL Selection Process mandates candidates to present original documents for verification. Acceptable forms of ID include:
- Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar printout
- Voter ID Card
- PAN Card
- Driving License
- Passport
- Official ID Card from School, College, or University
- Employer ID Card (Government/PSU)
- Ex-Serviceman Discharge Book issued by the Ministry of Defence
- Any other photo ID issued by the Central or State Government
