Daily Quiz for Competitive Exams – English Language: Solutions

Solutions

S1. Ans. (b)

Sol. Use there’ instead of ‘their’ to correct the sentence.

Thought both of them sound the same they have completely different meaning.

Their- belonging to or associated with the people or things previously mentioned or easily identified.

There- in that respect; on that issue.

S2. Ans. (a)

Sol. Use ‘see’ instead of ‘saw’ to correct the sentence.

The sentence is talking about Present and therefore base form of verb ‘see’ has to be used.

See- perceive with the eyes; discern visually.

S3. Ans. (c)

Sol. Use gone’ instead of ‘went’ to correct the sentence.

Already means that ‘something has happened earlier than we expected’ so past participle form of verb ‘go’ will be used for the sentence to be correct.

Go- move from one place to another; travel.

S4. Ans. (b)

Sol. Use ‘talk’ instead of ‘talks’ to correct the sentence.

Talks is third person present form of ‘talk’ and there is no change when we use it for a plural subject.

They talk fluently. (Plural Subject)

Talk- speak in order to give information or express ideas or feelings; converse or communicate by spoken words.

S5. Ans. (c)

Sol. Use ‘think’ to fill in the blank.

Since the subject is singular in nature ‘think’ has to be used to fill the blank.

Another way to deduce the answer is the modal verb right before the blank. Modal verbs take base form of verbs.

Whereas ‘thinks’ is used when a third person is being referred to in the present.

‘Thought’ is used in past tense.

‘ing’ form of a verb is used when the action continues.

S6. Ans. (a)

Sol. Use ‘will’ to fill in the blank.

Will- expressing the future tense.

The given sentence is an example of question tag and is separated in two parts positive statement and negative tag.

‘They will do’ is the positive statement and ‘will they not?’ is the negative question tag.
