Sol. The chief minister (CM) of Goa, Pramod Sawant has launched a ‘Beach Vigil App’, a collaboration between Information Technology (IT) sector and tourism sector that aims to benefit tourists and the institutions working in the beach tourism sector in a holistic management of beaches.

Through the Beach Vigil App, the Drishti workers, police and other stakeholders can raise issues for safeguarding the interest of the tourist’s. During the launch, Goa IT and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte was also present.

The app will cover everything from reporting illegal hawkers and illegal massage services to beach cleanliness.

Sol. Maharashtra State Board for Wildlife (MSBWL) recently approved 12 new conservation reserves and 3 wildlife sanctuaries, for boosting wildlife conservation movement and environment protection movement.

These protected areas (PAs) will have an area of around 1,000 sq km. In this, an area of 692.74 sq km will be for conservation reserves while an area of 303 sq km will be for wildlife sanctuaries.

Till date, 15 conservation reserves were notified in Maharashtra. With the addition of 12 new conservation reserves, the number will increase to 27.

With this approval, state will also get 3 new wildlife sanctuaries:

Extension of the Lonar wildlife sanctuary

Kolamarka in Gadchiroli- This region is affected by presence of Left-wing extremists. It has endangered Asiatic Wild buffaloes. In 2013, it was notified as conservation reserve.

Muktai Bhawani in Jalgaon

Sol. Jharkhand’s Eitu Mandal has scripted history by becoming the youngest entrant at the ongoing edition of the Khelo India Youth Games.

The 13-year-old kabaddi player entered record books even before making her first raid at the KIYG.

Daughter of a tractor driver, Eitu Mandal fell in love with kabaddi when she was just 8 years old. Undeterred by all the bulky women around her, she quickly moved up the levels to become part of the Under-18 Youth team.

Sol. Tokyo Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in R2- women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event at the Para Shooting World Cup 2022 in Chateauroux, France on June 7, 2022.

With the win, she has become the first Indian paralympic shooter to secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The 20-year-old from Jaipur has won the gold in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event with 250.6 points. Avni has set a new world record by breaking her own world record of 249.6.

Sol. Veteran Indian cricketer Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of International Cricket on June 8, 2022.

Mithali Raj has played 12 Tests, 232 ODIS, and 89 T20Is for India in her 19-year career.

Mithali Raj made her One Day International debut in 1999 against Ireland and scored an unbeaten 114 runs. She made her test debut in the 2001-2002 season against South Africa at Lucknow. On August 17, 2002, at the age of 19 in her third Test, she broke Karen Rolton’s record of the world’s highest individual Test score of 209.

Mithali Raj became the Captain of the Indian women’s cricket team in 2005. She is the only player (female) to have captained India in more than one ICC ODI World Cup Final- in 2005 and 2017. She led the Indian Cricket Team to the finals in the 2005 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

She is the only female cricketer to surpass the 7,000 run mark in Women’s One Day International Matches.

She is the first player to score 7 consecutive 50s in ODIs. She also holds the record for most half-centuries in WODIs.

In June 2018, Mithali Raj became the first player from India to score 2,000 runs in T20Is, and also became the first woman cricketer to reach 2000 T20Is runs.

Sol. All-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as the Indian women’s team ODI captain for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

The BCCI announced India’s squad for the Sri Lankan tour on June 8, 2022 after veteran cricketer Mithali Raj announced her retirement from international cricket.

RBI kept its projection growth at 2% for the current fiscal on the back of improvement in urban demand and gradual recovery in rural India.

RBI has increased the repo rate by 50 bps to 90%, due to the soar inflation.

RBI has increased FY23 CPI inflation forecast to 7% from 5.7%.

The limit of individual loans extended by co-operative banks by 100%.

Credit cards, starting with RuPay credit cards, can now be linked to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platforms.

Increased the limit for e-mandates/ standing instructions on cards and Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) for recurring transactions to ₹15,000, from ₹5,000 at present.

Sol. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on June 7 launched the Single Nodal Agency (SNA) Dashboard of Public Financial Management System (PFMS) in New Delhi as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM) celebrations by the Ministry of Finance.

This dashboard for to provide a platform for ministries/departments to monitor transfer of funds to states and their utilisation.

Sol. UN has planned to provide humanitarian assistance of around $48 million over a four-month period to Sri Lanka.

New Delhi’s financial assistance worth over $3 billion since January to provide essential items, including food, fuel, cooking gas and medicines.

The Delhi Airport plans to deploy these EVs within the upcoming three to four months as per the statement and discussions.

Sol.India jumped one position to 7th among the top recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the last calendar year (2021) despite FDI inflows into the country declining, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In its latest World Investment Report, UNCTAD said FDI inflows into India declined to $45 billion in 2021 from $64 billion in the preceding year. Outward FDI from India rose 43 percent to $15.5 billion in 2021.

While the United States ($367 billion) remained the top recipient of FDI, China ($181 billion) and Hong Kong ($141 billion) also retained second and third position respectively.

Suraksha-Mitra Project is a vehicle monitoring system. It sends distress messages in case of any accident. Motor Vehicle Department has launched this project under Nirbhaya Scheme. This system will send a distress message to owners’ mobile phones, if there are any untoward incidents while travelling.

A Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) will be attached to the vehicles. If the vehicle in involved in accident or in case driver over-speeds the vehicle, owners will receive SMS alerts from VLTD. Alerts would be sent immediately through SMS and e-mail to relevant number and email Id, provided by owners during installation of the device.

Under the project, this system has been installed in 38 lakh vehicles.

Sol. China recently proposed a plan to launch a Solar Power Plant in Space to get inexhaustible power in 2028, two years before the original schedule.

China had initially planned to set up a solar power plant of 1 megawatt capacity in space by 2030.

As per the latest update, China will launch a satellite to establish the same in 2028.

This satellite will test wireless power transmission technology from space to ground, from the height of 400 km.

 

S78. Ans. (1) $55 million

Sol. The Indian government has decided to extend a Line of Credit (LOC) of USD 55 million to Sri Lanka for the procurement of Urea Fertiliser.

This credit line was extended in response to an urgent request from the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), amid the ongoing economic crisis.

An LOC agreement was signed between GOSL and the Export-Import Bank of India on June 10, 2022 at Colombo, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, and the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay.

Sol. The twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference took place on 12-15 June 2022 at WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland after a gap of almost 5 years.

The Conference will be co-hosted by Kazakhstan and chaired by Timur Suleimenov, Deputy Chief of Staff of Kazakhstan’s President.

Indian delegation will be led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. India is a founding member of the WTO since1 January 1995 and a member of GATT since 8 July 1948.

Sol.United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Ambassador Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh as the Under-Secretary-General or Assistant Secretary-General of the UN.

She succeeds Courtenay Rattray of Jamaica who was appointed as the Chef de Cabinet.

She has been also appointed as High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).

António Guterres appointed Navid Hanif of Pakistan as Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
