Sol: Redcliffe Labs, a unit of Redcliffe Lifetech in the U.S., has come up with its first commercial drone flight in India’s healthcare sector.

The company has recently opened its commercial drone corridor between Uttarkashi and Dehradun.

Uttarkashi to Dehradun by road is 144 km, 6-8 hours by road and 12 hours during a landslide. But using drone technology this distance was covered in 88 minutes with one battery swap in between.

The project was a part of the Redcliffe and Skye Air tie-up and in the past three months, they have done 40 successful trials in North India.

Sol. Punjab Kings opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has become the first player to hit 700 fours in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dhawan reached this feat during the last league stage match of IPL 2022, between PBKS and Sunrisers Hyderabad, here at the Wankhede Stadium.

The batter has now a total of 701 IPL fours to his name.

Sol. World Health Organization has re-appointed Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as Director-General of WHO for the second term with effect from 16th August 2022.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched the ‘Kalaignarin All Villages Integrated Agricultural Development Programme’ that proposes overall agriculture development in all the 15,525 village panchayats through a convergence of Union and State government schemes and externally-aided projects in five years.

In the current year, the program will cover 1,997 village panchayats at a cost of Rs 227.06 crore and benefit over nine lakh agricultural families.

Aim: To bring 75 lakh hectares of land under net area cultivated in the next 10 years and increase the double-cropping area to 20 lakh hectares.

Sol. The 2022 Quad summit started in Tokyo, Japan on 24th May 2022. The leaders of the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, and the United States) will participate.

QUAD Fellowship was launched at the Summit. It is a first-of-its-kind scholarship program that aims to promote people-to-people linkages between the four members of Quad.

Every year, the fellowship will sponsor 25 students from each Quad country to pursue higher studies and doctoral degrees at leading Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) universities in the United States.

Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 is a two-day event and it is being held on 27 May 2022 and 28 May 2022 at Pragati Maidan in the national capital.

The two-day event will see over 1600 delegates comprising government officials, foreign diplomats, armed forces, central armed police forces, PSUs, private companies and drone startups.

At the drone festival event, PM Modi will interact with Kisan drone pilots and also with startups in the drone exhibition center.

They won 33 medals in total, including 13 gold, 15 silver, and 5 bronze.

Sol. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has imposed a life ban on wrestler Satender Malik after he thrashed referee Jagbir Singh during CWG trials inside the KD Jadhav Hall at the IGI Stadium.

The incident took place after Satender Malik lost the 125kg final during the Commonwealth Games 2022 trials in the presence of the WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan.

He reportedly punched the referee at the stadium, prompting the wrestling federation to impose a life ban on the wrestler.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held in Birmingham in the United Kingdom from July 28 to Aug 8.

Sol. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the National Women Legislators’ Conference-2022 in Thiruvananthapuram on May 26, 2022.

The Conference is being hosted by the Kerala Legislative Assembly as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

According to Assembly sources, the two-day conference will focus on modern issues such as women’s rights, gender equality, and enough female representation in decision-making bodies.

Sol. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has recently approved new guidelines for the implementation of ‘Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Yojana’.

It is an urban employment scheme announced by CM Ashok Gehlot in the 2022-23 Rajashthan’s state budget. The government will incur Rs 800 crore annually for the implementation of this scheme.

Under this scheme, at least 100 days of employment per year will be provided to the people residing in the urban areas. It is designed on lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

According to the new guidelines, an individual who is in the age group of 18 to 60 years and resides in the local body area will be registered based on the Jan Aadhaar card. The Jan Aadhaar card will be issued by the state government and it will be the primary eligibility document for enrolment under the scheme.

Sol. Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Smt Meenakshi Lekhi has attended the 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting via video conference, which was hosted by the People’s Republic of China and attended by all BRICS Member Nations.

Under the subject Establishing a Cultural Partnership Featuring Inclusiveness and Mutual Learning among BRICS, a discussion was conducted to promote and expand cultural activities among the BRICS countries.

The Ministers approved the BRICS Action Plan 2022-2026, which aims to expand cultural cooperation and execute the 2015 BRICS Cultural Cooperation Agreement.

Sol. An Indian government officer, Anwar Hussain Shaik has been made the chair of the WTO’s Committee on Technical Barriers on Trade (TBT). He replaced Elisa Maria Olmeda de Alejandro from Mexico.

Anwar Hussain Shaik was in PMI (Permanent Mission of India) Geneva.

The Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement aims to ensure that technical regulations, standards, and conformity assessment procedures are non-discriminatory and do not create unnecessary obstacles to trade.

WTO is a 164-member multilateral body that formulates rules for global exports and imports and adjudicates disputes between countries on trade-related issues. India has been a member since 1995.

Sol. Rural NEO Bank Mahagram has tied up with the IndusInd Bank to digitize the nation’s payment ecosystem and provide a wider scope to transact for its customers in rural India.

The partnership between the two aims to boost financial inclusion, encourage socio-economic development, mitigate the risks of a shadow economy, and accelerate the growth of a cashless society.

Maharam was founded in 2015 to enable rural women to save money at the local Kirana stores.

Sol. According to National Achievement Survey (NAS)-2021, at least 48% of students across the country walk to school, while 9% of them use school transportation and 18% of them use bicycle.

According to the survey, at least 25% of schools face a lack of parental support in students’ learning.

About 34 lakh students of 18 lakh schools in 720 districts from both rural and urban areas participated in the survey. The NAS was conducted throughout the country for Classes 3, 5, 8 and 10 on November 12 last year.

Sol. West Bengal cabinet has approved a proposal to replace the Governor with the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of state-run universities.

The move is seen as a fallout of the long-running battle between chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Currently, the Governor is the Chancellor of all State Universities. According to the governor’s official website, Dhankar is the ex-officio chancellor of 17 universities in Bengal.

Sol. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of 11 projects worth over Rs 31,500 crore in Chennai.

These projects aim at boosting infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity, and giving an impetus to ease of living in the region.

Modi also dedicated to the nation five projects worth over Rs 2,960 crores. The 75 km long Madurai-Teni (Railway Gauge Conversion Project), was built at a project cost of over Rs. 500 crore, will facilitate access and give a boost to tourism in the region. The 30 km long third railway line between Tambaram – Chengalpattu, was built at a project cost of over Rs. 590 crore, will facilitate the running of more Suburban services, thus offering greater options and enhancing comfort for the travelers.

The program also witnessed the inauguration of 1152 houses constructed as part of the LightHouse Project – Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 116 crore under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of six projects, being built at a cost of over Rs. 28,540 crores. The 262 Km long Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be built at a cost of over Rs. 14,870 crore. It will pass through the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu and will help reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai by 2-3 hours.

Sol. National Health Authority under its Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has launched revamped Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) mobile application for managing the health records.

The ABHA app was earlier known as the NDHM Health Records app.

It allows users self-uploading of physical health records and sharing of digital health records.

It helps users to link health records created at ABDM compliant health facilities and view them on their smartphones.

Now, the patients can get their health records anywhere with the help of their ABHA address.

This digitization of health records will help in better clinical decision making.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) was launched in August 2020 for developing an integrated digital health infrastructure in the country.

Sol. Delhi-based author Geetanjali Shree and American translator Daisy Rockwell won the International Booker Prize for their novel “Tomb of Sand,”.

Originally written in Hindi, it’s the first book in any Indian language to win the high-profile award, which recognizes fiction from around the world that has been translated into English.

The 50,000-pound ($63,000) prize money will be split between New Delhi-based Shree and Rockwell, who lives in Vermont.

“Tomb of Sand” is published in Britain by a small publisher Tilted Axis Press. It was founded by translator Deborah Smith, who won the 2016 International Booker for translating Han Kang’s “The Vegetarian” to publish books from Asia.

Shree’s book beat five other finalists including Polish Nobel literature laureate Olga Tokarczuk, Claudia Piñeiro of Argentina and South Korean author Bora Chung to be awarded the prize at a ceremony in London.

World No Tobacco Day has been observed every year on 31st May since 1989.

Sol. Jharkhand has been selected for World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) Award-2022 by the World Health Organisation.

The Indian State is being recognized by the global health body for its efforts in controlling tobacco consumption.

WHO Award for Tobacco Control will be received by the State Tobacco Control Cell of the Health Department on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day in Delhi on May 31, 2022.

The National Tobacco Control Programme was launched in Jharkhand in 2012 when the tobacco prevalence rate in the state was 51.1 per cent, of which 48% were smokeless users.

Sol. The INS Gomati was decommissioned from the naval dockyard in Mumbai.

The ship was discharged under the command of Captain Sudip Malik.

INS Gomati derives her name from the vibrant river Gomti and was commissioned on 16 April 1988 by then-defense minister, KC Pant, at Mazagon Dock Limited (Mumbai).

The third ship of the Godavari class guided-missile frigates.

INS Gomati was also the oldest warrior of the western fleet when decommissioned.

IMS Gomati was twice awarded the coveted Unit Citation, in 2007-08 and again in 2019-20, for remarkable spirit and stellar contribution to national maritime security.

Sol. The US overtook China to become India’s top trading partner in 2021-22, reflecting strong economic ties between the two countries.

According to commerce ministry data, in 2021-22, bilateral trade between the US and India stood at US$ 119.42 billion as against US$ 80.51 billion in 2020-21.

Exports to the US increased to US$ 76.11 billion in 2021-22 from US$ 51.62 billion in the previous fiscal, while imports rose to US$ 43.31 billion as compared to around US$ 29 billion in 2020-21.

The data showed that China was India’s top trading partner from 2013-14 to 2017-18 and also in 2020-21. Before China, the UAE was India’s largest trading partner.

In 2021-22, the United Arab Emirates was India’s third-largest trading partner with US$72.9 billion. It is followed by Saudi Arabia (US$ 42.85 billion), Iraq (US$ 34.33 billion), and Singapore (US$ 30 billion).

Sol. The 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for Documentary, Short Fiction, and Animation films began in Mumbai.

The festival was inaugurated by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The opening ceremony was held at the weeklong biennial film festival at the Nehru Centre.

MIFF 2022 has received 808 film entries from 30 countries with a great response. Out of 808 films, 102 will be screened under the Competition Category, 35 in international competition, 67 in the national competition and 18 Films will be screened under ‘MIFF Prism Category’.

11 movies from Bangladesh will be telecast at the festival.

The Best Film of the Festival will receive the Golden Conch award, along with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs.

Other awards carry cash prizes from five to one lakh along with Silver Conch, trophy, and certificate.

Sol. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur inaugurated the Takshashila Sports Complex built by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at Viman Nagar in Pune.

The main purpose is to fund sports facilities through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds and for the importance of creating sports infrastructure at grass root level.

The budget for the sports has been increased to 3,000 crores from Rs. 1,200 crores.

About the Award: The L’OEil d’Or documentary award is also known as The Golden Eye award. This award was created in 2015 by the French-speaking authors’ society LaScam in collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival. The award includes a cash prize of 5,000 euros (₹4.16 lakh approximately).

Sol. A list of the world’s best cities to work from home has been released, in which Singapore is placed at the top rank.

A study was released by mobile access technology company Kisi. Kisi analyzed data from the Journal of Public Economics and World Bank.

Singapore has been ranked at the number 1 spot. The percentage of jobs that can be performed remotely is 52.06%.

Washington in the US has been ranked at second number with 49.77% of jobs that can be performed remotely.
