Sol:   World Sanskrit Day is celebrated every year on Sawan Purnima, according to the Hindu calendar.

In the year 2022, the day was celebrated on 12 August.

It is celebrated to raise awareness and revive the ancient Sanskrit language.

Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language and belongs to the group of Indo-European languages.

Sanskrit is the mother of all Indian languages and it is one of the first languages spoken in India.

Sol: The proposal to designate 1,197.48 sq.km in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli as the Agasthiyarmalai Elephant Reserve was approved by the Union Environment Ministry.

Tamil Nadu will oversee this Agasthiyarmalai Elephant Reserve, which is the fifth elephant reserve.

The Periyar-Agasthyamalai region, which spans 5,600 sq km and 16 forest divisions in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, is home to the elephant population to the south of this.

Asian elephant numbers in the Periyar-Agasthyamalai landscape are estimated to be 1,800 (Census 2010).

Sol:  Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the ‘One MLA, One Pension’ scheme has been cleared by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

With the scheme, the AAP government aims to save crores.

Sol: An IAS officer of the 1989 batch Paban Kumar Borthakur will be the new chief secretary to the Assam government.

Borthakur will take charge with effect from August 31 when the present chief secretary IAS Jishnu Barua superannates, an official notification from the government read.

Paban Kumar Borthakur is currently posted as Additional Chief Secretary to the Assam government, T&D and Personnel departments.

Jishnu Barua, Chief Secretary, Assam will continue as Chairman, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for a period of two years after his superannuation on August 31 or until further orders, the notification said.

Sol:  Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has proposed a 3-men commission comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Pope Francis for global peace.

The Mexican President is planning to submit a written proposal to the UN to create the commission, made up of three world leaders, including PM Modi, to promote a world truce for a period of five years.

The aim of the commission is to present a proposal to stop the wars around the world and reach an agreement to seek a truce for at least five years.

This is India’s first open-ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index, which tracks the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India.

Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund aims to simplify investing in the Indian manufacturing sector.

Sol:   Santosh Kumar Singh has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan Technical University, Kota.

Sol:   The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has identified 75 Municipal Corporations to implement comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in the act of begging under “SMILE-75 Initiative”.

SMILE stands for “Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise”.

To implement the scheme till year 2025-26, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has allocated Rs.100 crores.

Sol:  The State Bank of India (SBI) will manage the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Bangladesh for two more years.

The agreement to extend the operations for two more years was signed between the officials of the SBI and the High Commission of India in Dhaka.

A priority lounge was also inaugurated at the IVAC centre in Dhaka.

Currently, SBI runs a total of 15 IVACs across Bangladesh. The IVAC centre at the Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka was opened in 2018. It is the largest Indian visa application centre. The first IVAC was started by SBI in 2005 in Dhaka.

On average, the IVAC manages more than 5 thousand visa applications on a daily basis. In 2019, the Indian High Commission issued over 16 lakh visas in Bangladesh.

Sol:  Renowned Bangladeshi architect, researcher and educator Marina Tabassum became the first person from the global south and first south Asian to win the prestigious Lisbon Triennale Millennium bcp Lifetime Achievement Award.

Announcing the award, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale jury praised Marina Tabassum for presenting an inspiring example of work with local communities that can have a positive impact across the globe even under the most adverse conditions.

Marina Tabassum is known for her architectural designs that break away from commercialism and deeply embed environmental concerns.

She has also designed bamboo houses at the Rohingya refugee camps, at Ukhiya near Cox’s Bazar which are ‘low impact, mobile housing which can be delivered at the lowest cost possible.

Sol:   N. Secretary General has appointed Rear Admiral Guillermo Pablo Rios of Argentina as the Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Rear Admiral Guillermo Pablo Ríos of Argentina succeeds Major General José Eladio Alcaín of Uruguay, who will shortly complete his assignment.

What is UNMOGIP? It was established in January 1949. After the first war in Kashmir (1947-1948), India approached the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to bring the conflict in Kashmir to the notice of Security Council members. In January 1948, the UNSC adopted Resolution 39, establishing the three-member United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) to investigate and mediate the dispute.

   Dabur India’s board has accepted the resignation of Amit Burman from the post of the Chairman of the company with effect from the close of working hours of August 10.

The day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and motivate people to donate organs after death.

The first-ever successful living donor organ transplant was carried out in 1954 in the United States when Ronald Lee Herrick donated a kidney to his identical twin brother, Richard Lee Herrick.

Doctor Joseph Murray won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1990 for successfully carrying out this kidney transplant.

The International Left-Handers Day is observed on August 13 every year to celebrate the uniqueness and differences of the left-handers and raise awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed in a predominantly right-handed world.

Left-handers are likely to have better verbal skills than their right-handed counterparts, according to a 2019 study by Oxford University.

The day was first observed in 1976 by Dean R Campbell, the founder of Lefthanders International Inc.

The National Equine Research Center, Hisar, Haryana, has developed the vaccine in collaboration with the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izzatnagar, Bareilly.

Research institutes have been engaged in developing the vaccine since the disease entered India in 2019.

Lumpy Skin Disease: It is caused by the virus “capripoxvirus”. It is genetically related to the family of viruses that cause gotpox and sheeppox. It mainly infects cattle and buffaloes through blood feeding insects.

Sol:  India’s first underwater train in Kolkata is all set to be fully completed by March 2023.

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has made a way to pass under the Hooghly River in Kolkata and the east and west corridor will be connected via this twin tunnel over 500 meters.

India’s first underwater train will be 13 meters below the Hooghly River.

As per the reports, the underwater train project in Kolkata will be completed at a cost of roughly Rs. 8,600 crores.

Currently, the Kolkata Green Line runs between Phoolbagan and Sector V in just in 6.97 meters. It will further help in reducing the travel distance between Sector V to Howrah.

Sol: The Indian government will soon start its mega ocean mission called ‘Samudrayaan’ to unlock the mysteries in the heart government of deep water.

With this mission, India will be joining the elite club of nations such as the US, Russia, Japan, France, and China to have niche technology and vehicles to carry out subsea activities.

Samudrayaan Mission is aimed to develop a self-propelled manned submersible to carry three human beings to a water depth of 6,000m in the ocean with a suite of scientific sensors and tools for deep ocean exploration.

Developed indigenously, MATSYA 6000 is a manned submersible vehicle.

It will facilitate the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) in conducting deep ocean exploration. It has an endurance of 12 hours of operational period and 96 hours in case of emergency.

Sol:  Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has inaugurated the 22nd ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ at Rabindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai.

It is a 5-day theatre festival which is being organized by the National School of Drama under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign.

The festival will showcase plays of renowned theatre directors based on the life and sacrifices of our freedom fighters.

Sol: Indian Bank has signed an MoU with Hatchlab Research Centre, TBI of SRM University-AP to launch ‘IND Spring Board’.

It is an initiative for financing start-ups and MSMEs.

The bank will extend financial aid of up to Rs 50 crore to start-ups incubated at SRM Hatchlab for their working capital requirements.

This collaboration is one of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

It will work as a digital solution that will let S. businesses make secure domestic and international B2B payments.

Global Pay is available to all eligible American Express Small Business Card Members in the U.S.

Sol: The Department of Culture of Uttar Pradesh has launched the community radio channel “Radio Jaighosh” to promote folk art, performing arts, and regional delicacies of Uttar Pradesh.

Radio Jaighosh will be available at 8 MHz and will broadcast programmes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It will help in connecting youths and children with the ethos, customs, and values of Uttar Pradesh.

The state government will also promote artists and unsung heroes of the state.

A daily radio show, ‘Parakram’, will be broadcast which will revolve around soldiers of the pre and post-Independence time and unsung heroes.

A daily show, ‘Shaurya Nagar’, will promote folktales from all the 75 districts of the state.

Many other different shows will be broadcast such as ‘Rajya ki Rasoi’ on the delicacies of Uttar Pradesh, ‘Rang Shala’ on theatre artists, ‘Rajya ki Raftaar’ on government schemes, and ‘Rang Yatra’ on performing arts.

The robbery was executed by Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajendra Lahiri, Chandrashekhar Azad, and other members of the Hindustan Republican Association.
