A centralised pay system called PADMA (Pay Roll Automation for Disbursement of Monthly Allowances) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has been launched by Controller General of Defence Accounts Rajnish Kumar.

PADMA is an automated platform leveraging latest technology which will provide seamless and timely disbursal of pay and allowances to around 15,000 ICG personnel.

PADMA has been developed under the aegis of Defence Accounts Department and will be operated by Pay Accounts Office of the ICG in Noida.

Andhra Pradesh Government has released ₹6,695 crore under ‘Amma Vodi’, a scheme to encourage mothers to send their children to schools.

The Amma Vodi scheme provides a school-going child’s mother ₹15,000 per year for educational expenditure, out of which the government would use ₹2,000 towards School Maintenance Fund (SMF) and Toilet Maintenance fund (TMF).

So far, the state government had spent ₹19,617.53 crore benefitting 50 lakh mothers and 82.31 lakh children under the scheme.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said budgetary provisions have been made for giving 300 units of free electricity to the state’s households from July 1.

This is the first budget of the recently-elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state.

The World UFO Day (WUD) is held on July 2 every year globally.

It is a day dedicated to the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) by the World UFO Day Organization (WUFODO).

WUD aims to raise awareness about the existence of UFOs and encouraging people to think about the possibility of us not being alone in the Universe.

Initially, the day was observed on June 24. Later, WUFODO established on July 2 to commemorate the day.

At Pearl Harbour in Hawaii, the indigenous Frigate INS Satpura and the P8I LRMRASW aircraft are taking part in the largest multilateral Naval Exercises, the Rim of the Pacific exercise (RIMPAC).

The theme of RIMPAC 2022 is “Capable, Adaptive, Partners.”

The P8I aircraft arrived in Hawaii on July 2, while Satpura arrived on June 27.

The multi-dimensional exercise involves 26 countries, 38 warships, 9 land forces, 31 unmanned systems, 170 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel.

The exercise will run over six weeks and aims to improve interoperability and build trust among Navies of friendly foreign countries.

The sea phase will start on July 12 and end on August 4 with the closing ceremony.

RIMPAC started in 1971 as an annual exercise but from 1974, it is held every two years in June and July of even-numbered years in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is led by US.

The last RIMPAC was held from August 17 to 30, 2020, as an on-sea only exercise due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The third International Drone Expo is being organized at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

It is being organized from 06-07 July 2022.

Nexgen Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. is its organiser. It is a platform to connect with buyers and industry stakeholders.

It is a display of capabilities, Drone & Anti Drone/UAV and Unmanned Systems for various applications.

It is supported by the Electronic Security Association of India.

2nd International Drone Expo was held on 18-19 August 2021 in New Delhi.

Sol.

The reigning Indian Youth World champions Alfiya Pathan and Gitika won gold medals after sensational performances in the Elorda Cup in Kazakhstan’s capital Nur-Sultan on July 4, 2022.

Indian female boxers Kalaivani Srinivasan and Jamuna Boro have won silver medals.

Gitika defeated Kalaivani in the finals of the women’s 48-kg category.

The Indian contingent has won a total of 14 medals. Both Alfiya and Gitika bagged prize money of $700 for their gold medals.

According to World Badminton Federation, July 5, 2022 was designated as the first World Badminton Day.

In early March, the Badminton World Federation announced that starting from 2022, July 5th will be designated as World Badminton Day every year.

The BWF stated in a statement that the International Badminton Federation (now renamed the World Badminton Federation) was established on July 5, 1934.

World Zoonoses Day is held every year on July 6 to raise awareness of the risk of Zoonotic diseases.

It was on July 6, 1885, when Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against Rabies virus, which is a zoonotic disease.

On July 5, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal released the ‘State Ranking Index for NFSA’ 2022 during a conference of State Food Ministers on ‘Food and Nutrition Security of India’.

Odisha has topped the ranking of States for implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), followed by Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

Among the special category States (the Northeastern States, Himalayan States, and the Island States), Tripura has obtained the first rank. Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim are at the second and third positions.

Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has released states’ Startup ranking 2021.

The ranking has been given to states and UTs under five categories – best performers, top performers, leaders, aspiring leaders and emerging startup ecosystems.

In the ‘Best performers’ category, Gujarat and Karnataka were adjudged as the best performers in ‘category A’ while Meghalaya is selected in ‘category B’.

Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana have been kept in ‘category A’ of ‘Top performers’ while Jammu & Kashmir is the top performer in ‘category B’.

In the ‘Leader’ category, Assam, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are the top performer’s states in ‘category A’. Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Goa were ranked ‘leaders’ in ‘category B’.

Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are in the ‘Aspiring leaders’

Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram and Ladakh are kept in the ‘Emerging startup ecosystems’

A total of 24 states and 7 Union territories (UTs) participated in this ranking exercise. This ranking is based on the States’ performance across seven reform areas divided into 26 action points.

Railway Protection Force launched a month long pan India drive against smuggling of narcotics through rail, under code name Operation “NARCOS”.

In the month of June 2022, RPF has recovered various narcotics products worth Rs 7.40 Crores, and arrested 165 persons who were carrying Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).

RPF has been empowered to conduct search, seizure and arrest under NDPS Act since April 2019.

The Hurun India Future Unicorn Index 2022 was released by Hurun Research Institute recently.

As per index, India will have 122 new unicorns in next two to four years.

According to Hurun India’s findings, Bengaluru continues to be start-up capital of India. It is home to 46 probable Unicorns.

Bengaluru is followed by Delhi NCR with 25 probable unicorns.

Mumbai is at third place, with 16 probable unicorns.

India gifted 75 ambulances and 17 school buses to Nepal as part of its ongoing efforts to build on the “robust and longstanding” partnership between the two countries and help the Himalayan nation bolster its infrastructure in the healthcare and education sectors.

India’s newly-appointed Ambassador Naveen Srivastava handed over the keys of the vehicles in the presence of Devendra Paudel, Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

In 2021, India had gifted 39 ambulances equipped with ventilators to Nepal as part of its efforts to help Kathmandu in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Similarly, in 2020, India had gifted 41 ambulances and six school buses to Nepal on the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1950 forms the bedrock of the special relations between the two countries.

Jasprit Bumrah has become the 6th Indian bowler and 5th pacer to take 100 wickets against the SENA counties on their soil, joining the league of legends like Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan and Anil Kumble.

The Indian pacer achieved the feat in the 22nd over of the final innings on Day 4 of India vs England 5th Test by taking the well-set opener Zak Crawley for 46 runs.

The SENA Countries include South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman is likely to coach India in its first T20I match against England in Southampton on July 7, 2022.
