Government of India owned public broadcaster Prasar Bharti which owns the All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) is hosting the 59th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly 2022 from 25th to 30th November 2022 in New Delhi.

Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi said that around 300 international delegates from 40 countries representing 50 organizations are participating in the event.

Theme of the 59th ABU General Assembly is: “Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis“

Prasar Bharti was set up in 1997 by an act of Parliament.

The ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union) was set up in 1964 is a non-profit, professional association of the broadcasting organizations of Asia and pacific region. The ABU has over 250 members in over 70 countries on four continents.

India’s Unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above in urban areas declined to 7.2% during July-September 2022 from 9.8% a year ago, the National Statistical Office (NSO) said on 24th Nov 2022.

Joblessness or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons among the labour force. Joblessness was high in July-September 2021 mainly due to the staggering impact of Covid-related restrictions in the country.

It also showed that the unemployment rate among females (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas declined to 9.4 per cent in July-September, 2022 from 11.6 per cent a year ago. It was 9.5 per cent in April-June, 2022.

Russia and Belarus were a major exporter of fertilizers in the world. They both accounted for more than 40% of global exports of potash last year. Russia accounted for about 22% of global exports of ammonia, 14% of the world’s urea exports and about 14% of Monoammonium phosphate (MAP).

Venu Gopal Achanta, Director, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), New Delhi, has been elected as a member of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM).

The 27th General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) meeting was held on 15-18 November, 2022 at Paris, France.

Achanta is among the 18 members elected from different countries and he is the 7th Indian to be elected to the CIPM.

The first Indian to be elected as a member of CIPM was K.S. Krishnan, the founder Director of CSIR-NPL.

The last Indian to be elected was E. S. R. Gopal, the then Director, and CSIR-NPL (1991-1997).

At present, 64 countries are members of CGPM and it meets every 4 years at the International Bureau of Weight and Measure (BIPM), France.
