The week is observed every year from September 1-7.

The purpose of this week is to raise awareness among the general public about the value of healthy eating practices and proper nutrition for upholding a healthy lifestyle.

Theme 2022: “World of Flavors”

National Nutrition Week was established in 1975 by the members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), now known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Sol. As per NCRB data for the 2019-2021 period, Delhi is the most unsafe metropolitan city, with 13,982 crimes against women recorded there in 2021.

Of the 43,414 crimes reported against women in 19 major cities across the country, Delhi accounted for 32.20% of the cases.

The national capital was followed by Mumbai with 5,543 crimes against women and Bengaluru with 3,127 such crimes in 2021. Hyderabad (3,050) and Jaipur (2,827) were also among the top five most unsafe metro cities.

Sol. Kolkata has topped the list of cities with the least number of cognizable offenses per lakh of its population, making it the safest city in India in 2021, as per the latest National Crime Records Bureau Report.

The city scored 103.4 per 1 lakh people in terms of the number of cognizable offences, marching ahead of Pune which stood second.

Kolkata has retained its position three times in the last four years: in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Kolkata’s crime rate has been sliding for the past seven years, with the total number of cases declining to just 14,591 in 2021 from 18,277 in 2020. There were 26,161 cases in 2014. The total number of IPC crimes has slid from 15, 517 in 2021 to 13,067 in 2021. There were 17,324 cases in 2019. The number of state law crimes, too, has gone down – from 2,760 in 2020 to 1,524 in 2021.

Sol. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released the Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India 2021 report.

It stated that there were 1,55,622 deaths in road accidents in India in 2021, with Uttar Pradesh leading with 21,792 fatalities, followed by Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and MP.

According to the report, the rate of accidental deaths (per lakh of the population) increased in 2021 as compared to 2020. The total number of accidental deaths in 2021 in India is 3,97,530.

Out of 3,97,530 accidental deaths, 7,126 (1.8 percent) deaths were due to forces of nature, and 3,90,404 (98.2 percent) of deaths were due to other causes.

The plant will have a capacity of 20,000 million metric tonnes per annum.

Sol. Tata Steel has signed an MoU with the Punjab Government for setting up a Steel Plant with a scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) in Ludhiana.

This initiative to set up the greenfield facility at Kadiana Khurd, Hitech Valley, Ludhiana in Punjab is a part of Tata Steel’s commitment to investing in a circular economy

It is a step aligned to the Company’s goal of achieving Net Zero carbon emission by 2045.

This EAF-based steel plant would produce construction-grade steel rebar under the Company’s flagship retail brand ‘Tata Tiscon’.

In FY 2021-22, Tata Steel became the first steel rebar manufacturing company to receive GreenPro certification.

Sol. German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has named Santosh Iyer as the Managing Director & CEO of the Indian operations with effect from January 1, 2023.

Pixar’s animated short film “For the Birds”, written and directed by Ralph Eggleston won the award for Best Animated Short at the 74th Academy Awards (2002). He also won his first Annie Award for Best Art Direction for the movie ‘’Toy Story’’.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) data, 41,91,000 women have died due to cervical cancer in India since 2019.

What is cervical cancer? When cancer starts in the cervix, it is called cervical cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all women are at risk for cervical cancer. It occurs most often in women over age 30.

Students from all across the country will be eligible for admission.

India remained the fastest growing major economy as China registered economic growth of 0.4 percent in the April-June 2022 quarter.

The Indian economy grew by 20.1 per cent in April-June 2021-22, as per the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

Sol. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore successfully designed and conducted the Cyber Security Exercise “Synergy” for 13 Countries on 31st August 2022.

It was a part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group. The Group is being led by India under the leadership of National Security Council Secretariat.

The theme of the exercise was “Building Network Resiliency to counter Ransomware Attacks”.

The exercise scenario was derived from real life cyber incidents, in which a domestic level (limited impact) ransomware incident escalates to a global cyber security crisis.

Sol. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced its collaboration with HSBC India in order to support Indian women athletes, particularly the young ones.

Sol.Delhi Police becomes the first police force to make forensic evidence mandatory in crimes punishable by more than six years.

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued an order regarding this.

As per the Delhi police order, one ‘forensic mobile van’ shall be allotted to each district to provide scientific and forensic assistance.

These forensic mobile vans will not be administered by the police but will be an independent entity accountable to the courts of law.

Forensic evidence is mainly three types-DNA, fingerprints, and bloodstain pattern analysis.

Sol. Madhya Pradesh government has decided to reduce the weight of school bags drastically and its new policy exempts students from 30 lakh schools in the state from carrying bags once a week.

As per the circular, a day in a week will be “bag-less” for students and dedicated to co-curriculum activities.

Sol.The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved Tejas Mark-2 Project. It has sanctioned 6,500 crore rupees for designing and developing of Tejas Mark-2 fighter jet.

It is manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The advanced version of the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA) will feature a series of additions to its flight and fight capabilities.

Tejas 2.0 will be equipped with more powerful engines and indigenously developed Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar.

Sol. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commissioned INS Vikrant – India’s 1st Indigenous Aircraft Carrier on 2nd September, at Cochin Shipyard in Kochi.

It took close to 17 years to design and develop INS Vikrant. The work on India’s 1st Indigenous Aircraft Carrier began in April 2005.

The ship is 262 m long and 62 m wide and it displaces approximately 43,000 tonnes when fully loaded.

INS Vikrant can attain a maximum speed of 28 knots with an endurance of 7500 nautical miles.

INS Vikrant is equipped with around 2,200 compartments to accommodate a crew of 1600 personnel.

Sol. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new Naval Ensign on 2nd September, during the commissioning ceremony for INS Vikrant – India’s 1st Indigenously built aircraft carrier.

Sol. Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has signed an MoU with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to start a biogas demonstration project to accelerate carbon neutrality in India.

In a bid to establish a joint venture, Suzuki and NDDB will undertake joint studies to evaluate the business model for future commercialization of biogas and its potential for widespread use.

In India, there are many cows whose dung contains methane that have 28 times larger greenhouse effect than those of CO2, which is emitted into the atmosphere.

The project will consider suppressing atmospheric emissions of methane and refining fuel for automobiles from methane contained in cow dung.

Sol.The Vostok 2022 military exercise – a multilateral strategic and command exercise- commenced on 1st September 2022 at the training grounds of the Eastern Military District of Russia.

The Indian Army contingent comprising troops from 7/8 Gorkha Rifles had arrived at the location where the drill will take place and over the next seven days.

Blue Energy Motors’ trucks will be Liquified Natural Gas-fuelled, long-haul, heavy-duty trucks.

The market entry of the LNG-fuelled trucks will start with introduction of 5528 4×2 tractor as the first model.

Sol. The Union Territory of Ladakh will get India’s 1st ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ which will be set up in the cold desert regions of the Union Territory.

Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Science and Technology made the announcement formally on 3rd Sept 2022.

As per the announcement, the ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ will be set up and ready by December 2022 and will be used primarily to promote and boost Astro-Tourism in the UT.

Henley in Ladakh will be home to India’s 1st Dark Sky Reserve. Ladakh’s Henley has been chosen as the site for the development of Dark Sky Reserve because its cold desert located about 3,000 metres above sea level and is surrounded by mountains.

Sol. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on 2nd September, inaugurated Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki as the 29th district of the state. It has been carved out of Rajnandgaon district.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on 3rd September, also announced Sarangarh-Bilaigarh and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai as the 30th and 31st districts of the state.

Sol.  Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the mascot and the anthem for the 36th National Games at Trans Stadia in Ahmedabad.

The mascot is named ‘Savaj’ which means “Cub” in Gujarati.

The anthem for the national games is based on the theme of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.

The National Games are going to be organized from 29th September 2022 to 12th October 2022.

It will be played in six cities of Gujarat including, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.

  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has signed off on the proposal to appoint Captain Binesh Kumar Tyagi as the new chairman and managing director of Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI).

Tyagi was heading the Liner and Passenger Services Division as Director (L&PS) since January 7, 2021 in the company, the PSU said in a regulatory filing.

Sol.Senior IAS officer Paban Kumar Borthakur took charge as the new Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam.

An IAS officer of the 1989 batch, Borthakur has taken over the charge from Jishnu Barua.

Paban Kumar Borthakur was earlier posted as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Assam government, T&D and Personnel departments.

Jishnu Barua, will continue as Chairman of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for a period of two years from today or until further order, the notification said.

Sol. Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad announced on 3rd September 2022, that legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara has been appointed the head coach of the side for upcoming seasons of the league.

Sol. Phonepe will acquire wealth management platforms Wealthdesk & OpenQ

Flipkart’s PhonePe, an Indian payments business backed by Walmart Inc., is acquiring two wealth management firms for $75 million in total.

WealthDesk will cost roughly $50 million, while OpenQ will cost nearly $25 million, including debt.

Customers may invest in equities and exchange-traded funds through WealthDesk, which was formed in 2016 and is based in Mumbai, India’s financial hub. OpenQ also provides trading baskets and investing analytics to consumers and institutional customers.

PhonePe, managed by Sameer Nigam and started in 2015, was partially split out from Flipkart in 2020. Walmart directly owns around 10% of PhonePe, while the e-commerce behemoth owns roughly 87 percent.
