She prayed for his return each year and told any sister who conducted the rituals and put on a tilak not to fear the god of death. There is another legend that states that after Lord Krishna vanquished the demon Narakasura, he visited his sister Subhadra, who garlanded him with a Tilaka on his brow. The day has been referred to as Bhai Dooj ever since.
