What Does BPO Means in English

BPO is an abbreviation for Business process outsourcing. It is an agreement between a company and an external service provider or business process outsourcer. It is a cost-effective strategy that enables companies to delegate non-essential tasks to external vendors.

This could involve tasks like producing goods or providing support services like bookkeeping, inputting data, and managing personnel. BPO Full Form in Jobs

The BPO full form in jobs is same, i.e., Business Process Outsourcing. The BPO industry has been quickly expanding. In terms of manpower, this industry employs approximately 4.14 million people directly as of July 2024. The global BPO industry is expected to be valued at 57.67 billion dollars in 2023, with offshore BPO accounting for $11.4 billion of that total.

If only we look at India, it has a 5–6% share of the overall industry, but a commanding 63 per cent share of the offshore component. The 400,000 headcount represents around 40% of the projected one million individuals directly working in the TCS IT and BPO sectors.

Catering, BPO training and recruitment, transportation vendors (home pick up and drops for night shifts are usual in the business), security services, and facilities management organizations are among industries that rely on this.

Criticisms of BPO Industry

Some observers have criticized India’s BPO industry. A scholar of Sociology Department at Lehman College, City University of New York, reports that Indian call-centre employees are expected to imitate the Western employees they have replaced in terms of using US vernacular, even temporarily adopting an Anglo name during the call, in order to meet the expectations of the US consumers they support long-distance.

While this is true, Nadeem believes that this transient shift to an American-like identity causes psychological pain and has led to employees adopting Western-style consumer lives despite earning significantly more than their fellow citizens.

Intellectual Property Protection is another factor to consider while outsourcing, not only to India but to any other country. When corporations outsource their job, they must dilute their essential process expertise before passing it on to outsourcing. If they fail to do so, the outsourcer will be able to learn enough about the outsourcing company’s operations to compete with them later by offering similar services in their own country or perhaps globally.

According to another scholar, the outsourcing industry’s political clout far outweighs its economic contribution, allowing it to secure the Indian government’s support and resources ahead of other sectors of the economy with far greater developmental potential.
