The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to hold the board examinations for class 10th and 12th from February 15, 2025. With under a week remaining before the exams, students are making every effort in their study schedule and striving to perform their best in the upcoming test.

It is normal for students to have significant questions concerning the exam. For example, will marks be taken off if you go over the word limit? Or, do pre-board marks count towards the final results?

Q.1) Will Questions be Asked from the Board’s Sample Paper?

The board indicates that sample question papers merely assist students in understanding the format, structure, and variety of questions. Nonetheless, the exam questions could be drawn from any section of the syllabus. Consequently, it is recommended that students study comprehensively from the whole syllabus.

Q.2) Does Failing in Pre-Board Examination, mean one Cannot Appear in the Board Examination?

According to the board, pre-boards assist students in assessing their level of preparedness for the Board exam. A student cannot be prevented from taking the Board examination if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Q.3) Are pre-board Exam Marks Considered in the Board Examinations?

As per CBSE, the marks achieved in the pre-board exam are not counted or incorporated into the Board examination scores.

Q.4) Are Marks Deducted for Exceeding the Word Limit and Spelling Mistakes, Especially in the Language Papers?

According to the CBSE, there are no penalties for going beyond the word limit. Nevertheless, in the language papers, marks are deducted for spelling errors and other mistakes.

Q.5) Are any Marks Given for Good Presentation?

According to the CBSE, although no separate marks are awarded for presentation, it is advised that answers should be tidy, well-structured, with key points highlighted.

In these circumstances, the board recommends that students stay calm and concentrate on their studies. They need to create a daily schedule and maintain consistency in their practice.

CBSE does not recommend that students engage in selective studying for their exams. The Board has established a curriculum for each subject. Students should study comprehensively from the complete syllabus and grasp the concepts to achieve high marks in their exams.

Q.8) What to do if a Student’s Writing Speed is slow and Deters him/her from Completing the Paper?

To enhance writing speed, the CBSE recommended that students practice by writing answers. Moreover, prior to providing any responses during the exam, they ought to arrange their thoughts and attempt to write answers in bullet points if pressed for time. They must not leave out a whole question.

Q.9) Are Whiteners and Gel Pens Allowed in Board Exams

Although the use of whitener is prohibited in board exams, students are permitted to use blue or royal blue ink gel pens.

This year, approximately 44 lakh students from 8,000 schools both in India and overseas can take the Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
