If you are a law aspirant then you must have heard about the CLAT consortium, also known by the name Consortium of NLUs or CNLUs. The Consortium of National Law Universities is the main administrative body that oversees the administration of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Along with that, the Consortium also conducts the admission process by releasing the admission list in various rounds.
CLAT Consortium
CLAT Consortium comprises 24 NLUs and is responsible for organizing the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The group of NLUs was formed on August 19, 2017, with the aims of enhancing the legal education in the nation and promoting improved organization and cooperation among all the national law universities. Over time, the Consortium has developed into a well-structured, efficient, and transparent organization for administering the national law entrance exam.
What is the Consortium of NLU?
The CLAT Consortium, also known as the Consortium of NLUs, is responsible for organizing the nationwide law entrance test. The Consortium’s leadership consists of vice-chancellors from all 24 NLUs involved. The group’s efforts have paid off, as seen by the recognition of numerous elite NLUs in the legal education area, along with IITs for engineering and IIMs for management education.
CLAT Consortium History
Before, CLAT was administered by National Law Universities in a rotating schedule. Nonetheless, in order to improve the organization, transparency, and effectiveness of the CLAT and enhance legal education nationwide, approximately 18 NLUs united to establish the Consortium of National Law Universities, known as the CLAT Consortium, on August 19, 2017.
In the following years, the CLAT Consortium welcomed four additional universities. Currently, all NLUs, with the exception of National Law University in Delhi, are members of the Consortium of National Law Universities. NLU Tripura and GNLU Silvasa are NLUs that have been recently established and have recently become part of the consortium.
CLAT Consortium Structure
The governing body of the CLAT Consortium is its main executive body. Each year, the Consortium’s governing body unveils the organizing members of CLAT, who are primarily in charge of administering the exam for that year. The consortium’s leadership consists of these members.
