The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) has postponed the CLAT counselling process for the academic year 2025-26. This has been done in light of the legal battle that consortium is planning to fight in Supreme Court. The CLAT Consortium is moving to SC after the Hon’ble Delhi High Court ordered it to release the revised result and merit list after errors were found in the answer key. The CLAT counselling 2025 process has now been diverted because of this issue.

The Consortium of National Law Universities has postponed the CLAT counselling 2025 due to its plane to move to Supreme Court to seek relief from the Delhi High Court Order. This step has been taken by the CLAT consortium after the revision bench of Delhi High Court denied its petition to seek revision. The Consortium was order to revise the merit list and result after making necessary changes in the answer key.

The CLAT Consortium, that was to release CLAT counselling 2025 first merit list on December 26, 2024, has deferred the release of the same. The CLAT counselling 2025 process has been deferred till further notice. The different steps necessary for CLAT counselling 2025 to secure admission into NLU that should be properly followed by the candidates are given below.

  • Announcement of CLAT 2025 results: The Consortium of NLU announced the CLAT 2025 results on December 10.
  • CLAT 2025 counselling registration period: Those with a qualifying score in CLAT 2025 can sign up for the counselling procedure via their CLAT login by paying the registration fees for CLAT 2025 counselling. Candidates must also provide the NLU preference list for 2025 following the announcement of the CLAT 2025 results.
  • Release of the CLAT 2025 allotment list: Once the registration for CLAT counselling 2025 concludes, the officials will issue the NLU-specific CLAT 2025 allotment list that includes information about candidates selected for admission in a specific round.
  • Exercising freeze/ float/ exit options: Selected candidates must choose one option from freeze, float, or exit. Candidates content with their assigned seats or those who have received their top NLU choice can select the freeze option. Candidates unsatisfied with their assigned seat or those who did not receive their top NLU choice and wish to be considered for later admissions must select the float option. Candidates wanting to leave the counselling process must select the exit option. Candidates who fail to select any of the three alternatives will be deemed to have withdrawn from the counselling process, resulting in the loss of their registration fee.
  • Payment of confirmation fee: Candidates opting for the freeze or float option are required to pay a confirmation fee of Rs.30,000 (for general category) or Rs.20,000 (for other categories). The confirmation fee will be deducted from the total university fees due during admission.
  • University fee payment: Applicants must pay the university fee by the specified deadline to finalize their seat allocation.
  • Document verification and reporting: Candidates must report to the designated NLU to undergo document verification and fulfill other requirements in the CLAT 2025 admission procedure.

CLAT Counselling 2025 Options

During CLAT counseling, candidates can choose from three options: freeze, float, or exit. It is important to note that these options might not be offered in every NLU or counseling session. Candidates are advised to obtain more information from the official CLAT site or the website of the appropriate NLU. Here is a comprehensive explanation of these options:

Freeze Option: A candidate can choose this option if they are satisfied with the seat assigned to them and wish to avoid participating in additional counseling sessions. By choosing this option, the candidate relinquishes their opportunity to be considered for future counseling rounds and secures their place at the specified National Law University (NLU).

Float Option: A candidate has the option to choose the float feature if they wish to participate in additional rounds of counseling and are unhappy with the seat they have been given. By selecting this option, the candidate can confirm the allocated seat while also indicating their interest in participating in further counseling sessions to secure a more advantageous seat. The seat obtained in the prior round will be lost if a candidate selects the float option and receives a seat in a subsequent round.

Exit Option: A candidate has the choice to select the exit option if they choose to discontinue at any point during the counseling process. By choosing this option, the applicant will terminate the counseling process and have their name withdrawn from future counseling session considerations.

CLAT Counselling Fees Refund Policy 2025

There are various situations in which candidates may have their CLAT 2025 counselling registration fee refunded. In the same way, the CLAT 2025 counselling fees may be lost under specific circumstances. All refunds will be carried out through the same bank account that the candidate provided during registration. Presented below are the specifics.

  • If a candidate does not secure a seat in the CLAT counselling process, the counselling registration fee will be fully refunded.
  • If a candidate leaves the CLAT counselling 2025 process by selecting the exit option, the counselling registration fee will be fully refunded.
  • The confirmation fee paid by the candidate who chose freeze or float options cannot be refunded.
  • If a candidate chooses the freeze or float option and pays the confirmation fee but later withdraws from the process, they will lose the confirmation fee. The registration fee for counselling for these candidates will be refunded completely or with a deduction of Rs 5000 if they exit after a certain deadline.
  • If a candidate is deemed ineligible by the NLUs after document verification during admission, the counseling registration fee will be refunded, with a deduction of Rs 5000.
