Delhi HC Dismisses Plea Challenging CAT 2024 Results, Check Details

The Hon’ble High Court of Delhi has junked the plea filed by the aggrieved candidate challenging the CAT 2024 exam results. Delhi High Court on January 07, 2025 (Tuesday) dismissed the plea that challenged the IIM CAT 2024 exam results issued by IIM Calcutta earlier in December 2024.

CAT results is used for admission to management programs in prestigious institutions like IIMs, FMS, IITs and other related colleges. In the CAT 2024 results declared on December 19, 2024, a total of 14 candidates (1 girl and 13 boys) have topped the exam by scoring 100 percentile.

Delhi HC Dismisses Plea Challenging CAT 2024 Results

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court declined to overturn the results of the common admission test (CAT) 2024 for entry into IIMs and various business schools. Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju, while delivering the ruling, rejected a petition contesting the CAT 2024 results announced on December 19, 2024.

The Delhi HC observed that there is no need to interfere with the CAT results. While pronouncing the judgement, the Hon’ble Delhi HC Justice said, “… we find no reason to interfere with the results of CAT. The petition is accordingly dismissed”.

Plea Pointed Towards Discrepancy in Answer Key

The petition was submitted by a candidate, Aditya Kumar Mallick, who took the exam, claiming that there was an unrecorded mistake in the answer key, which impacted his result. His request further stated that although he had raised concerns regarding the provisional answer key issued on December 3, the final answer key was published without modifications, and the exam results were quickly announced by IIM Calcutta, the authority which organized the exam, on December 19.

Petitioner Aditya Kumar Mallick contested the provisional answer key and noted a mistake in the response given for one of the questions in the English comprehension section. The petition stated that IIM Calcutta quickly announced the results on December 19, 2024, without providing any justification or allowing him time to pursue legal action.

Challenging the CAT 2024 Results

The plea further added, “The result was expected in the second week of January, 2025 and the haste in declaring the results in December speaks volume”. This haste in result declaration prompted the petitioner to take the legal route.

Mallick’s request additionally mentioned that his objection was backed by prominent specialists and faculty from different CAT coaching institutes. The petitioner consequently requested an order to annul the results and establish an expert committee to determine the accurate answers.

IIM Calcutta, represented by senior advocate Arvind Nayyar, argued that the expert committee had already reviewed the objections.
