Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th examination in 2023, 2024, and candidates who are appearing for the class 12 or equivalent board exam in 2025 are eligible to take the JEE Main 2025 exam. JEE Mains Attempt Limit: Important Dates for JEE Mains 2025

The JEE Main Exam is conducted twice in a year: once in January and once in April. So, in an year, the JEE Main is held two times. Therefore, candidates may take JEE Mains six times in total over three years. JEE Main Number of Attempts Over the Years

The authority conducting the JEE Main exam changed the attempt limit policy for the JEE Main exam from the year 2019. Before 2019, there different types of attempt limits. Check details below.

How Many Attempts For JEE Main Till 2018

Until 2018, the JEE Main exam was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In that time period, only one try per year was allowed, but a person can take up to 3 attempts in a row throughout their life. The JEE Main was conducted in the offline mode till 2010, which involved using pen and paper.

Until 2017, candidates could choose between the Pen-Paper mode or the Computer Based Test, which is the online mode. Since 2018, the Computer Based Test has been required. A total of 360 marks were given out for 90 questions, with each question worth 4 marks and a deduction of -1 mark for every wrong answer.

JEE Main Attempts Limit From 2019

From 2019 onwards, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been responsible for organizing the JEE Main and has made changes to certain regulations related to student participation in the exam. Until 2018, the JEE Main exam took place annually, but in 2019, NTA announced that it would now be conducted biannually. The initial JEE Main 2019 session took place in January, with the subsequent session occurring in April. The total score given was 360 with 90 questions, and there were no modifications to the scoring system.

JEE Main 2025 Attempt Limit

There is no restrictions on the attempt limit for the JEE Main exam. Candidates can appear for both the sessions of the JEE Main exam in a single year. There is no such restrictions. The only catch is that students can take the JEE Main exam only for the three consecutive years as many number of times it is conducted. The JEE Main candidates are restricted by their passing year, not by their number of attempts.

Number of Attempts in JEE Main 2025

The NTA has not modified the eligibility criteria for the JEE Main 2025 exam. Candidates will be able to give the JEE Main exam for three consecutive years this time too. That is, candidates who will pass their class 12 exam in 2025 will be able to take the JEE Main exam up to the year 2027. The candidates will be able to take both sessions of the exam in these three consecutive years of the JEE Main.

JEE Main 2025 Age Limit

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not prescribed any age limit criteria for the JEE Main exam. So candidates belonging to any age group can take the JEE Main exam subject to qualifying the other exam eligibility criteria. So, candidates of any age group can appear for the JEE Main session 1 (January session) and JEE Main session 2 (April session) exam. The JEE Main 2025 Session 1 (January Session) exam is just a few days away and the correction window for the same has been closed.

How Many Attempts For JEE Main For General Category Candidates

Candidates from the General category may take the JEE Main test up to three consecutive years, and two times in a year. That is, the general category candidates can appear for the JEE Main exam for a total of 6 times in their life. This cap protects equity and gives prospective engineers a chance to demonstrate their skills and get admittance to prestigious universities around the nation.

How Many Attempts Allowed For JEE Main For OBC Category Candidates

OBC (Other Backward Classes) candidates are allowed to appear for the JEE Main exam for a maximum of three years, just like the general category candidates. That is, applicants from the OBC category, whether they are from the CL (creamy layer) or NCL (non-creamy layer), will be allowed to appear for a maximum of 6 times for the JEE Main exam, two times in a year. How Many Attempts For JEE Main For SC/ST Category Candidates

The number of years a candidate can appear for the JEE Main exam remains the same for all category of applicants. That is, candidates from the SC/ST category too are allowed to appear for the JEE Main exam only for the three consecutive years. So, aspirants from the SC/ST category are allowed to appear for the JEE Main exam two times a year, for three consecutive years, totaling six times overall. How Many Attempts For JEE Advanced

Applicants can appear for the JEE Advanced exam for a maximum of two times in consecutive years. That is, students who want to take the JEE Advanced exam 2025 must have passed their Class 12th board exam not earlier than 2024. The cap of the number of attempts is applicable for candidates belonging to every category ranging from the general category to the ST and PH category.

So, students who will be passing their class 12th board exam in 2025 and score in the top 20% of their board will be able to appear for the JEE Advanced 2025 and JEE Advanced 2025 exam.

JEE Main 2025 Score Validity

The score of the JEE Main exam is valid only for a single year. That is, if any candidate have given the JEE Main exam in 2025, then they will be able to take admission based on that score only in the year 2025. The same score card cannot be used after a year. The JEE Main score becomes invalid after the conclusion of one academic year.

Age Relaxation According to Different Categories in JEE Main

There is no need to provide the age relaxation criteria in JEE Mains as there is no upper age limit. Only, there is attempts limit in the JEE Main exam. However, the eligibility criteria for age in JEE Advanced depends on the candidate’s reservation category. General category candidates are required to have a Date of Birth on or after October 1, 1999. SC, ST, and PwD candidates are eligible for a five-year age relaxation, meaning they must have been born after October 1, 1994.
