Indian Army Chief Manoj Pandey

Currently, the Indian Army Chief is General Manoj Pande. General Manoj Pande is the 29th Chief of the Army Staff of India Prior to this, he held the positions of Vice Chief of Army Staff, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, and Commander-in-Chief (CINCAN) of Andaman and Nicobar Command. He is the first Corps of Engineers officer to hold the position of Army Chief.
He was chosen by the Indian government to succeed General Manoj Mukund Naravane as Chief of the Army Staff on April 18, 2022.

Indian Army Chief During Kargil War

General Ved Prakash Malik was the Indian Army Chief during the Kargil war. From September 30, 1997, to September 30, 2000, he was the Indian Army’s 19th Chief of Army Staff.

The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir as well as other locations along the Line of Control from May to July 1999. (LoC). Operation Vijay, the designation for the Indian military operation in the area, is another term for the battle used in India. In what was known as Operation Safed Sagar, the Indian Air Force worked with the Indian Army to flush out both the Pakistan Army and irregular Pakistani troops from vacated Indian positions along the LoC.

British Indian Army, established on April 1st, 1895, was the forerunner of the Indian Army. On January 15, 1949, General Sir Francis Butcher, the final British Commander-in-Chief of India, handed over command to Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
In 1955, the Indian Parliament passed The Commanders-In-Chief (Change in Designation) Act, which established the position of Chief of the Army Staff also known as Indian Army chief of defence staff or Army Chief. It took the place of the former Commander-in-Chief, Army position. The office of the Indian Army chief is located in New Delhi’s Raisina Hill’s South Block of the Central Secretariat.
