The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has changed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 Eligibility majorly. The authority has increased the JEE Advanced 2025 Attempts from 2 to 3 Attempts. Previously, aspirants could take the exam 2 times but from now on they can sit 3 times in three straight years. JEE Advanced 2025 Attempts Increased to 3
According to the official notice published on November 5, 2024, “A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of three times in three consecutive years. a candidate must have taken the Class XII (or equivalent) test for the first time in either 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as obligatory subjects”. In addition, the official announcement stated: “Candidates who had appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2022 or earlier, are NOT allowed to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, irrespective of the combination or number of subjects attempted/offered.”
Updated JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria Official Notice
According to the official notice about the Updated JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria, “if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) stated the results for the academic year 2021-22 on or after September 21, 2022, then the candidates of that Board who showed up for their Class XII (or equivalent) exam in 2022 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, specified they meet all the other eligibility criteria.”
JEE Advanced New Eligibility Criteria 2025
Criteria A1: JEE (Main) 2025 Category Wise Shortlisting
Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2025. The percentages of various categories of candidates that will be shortlisted are as follows:
10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the rest 40.5% open to all. PwD candidates are eligible for 5% horizontal reservation in each of the five categories mentioned. The table below illustrates the order for selecting the top 2,50,000 applicants in various categories based on their performance in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE (Main) 2025.
Criteria A2: Age Limit
Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and PwD applicants receive a five-year age relaxation, which means they must have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
Criterion A3: JEE Attempt Limit
The board allows for a maximum of three tries in JEE (Advanced) in three consecutive years.
Criterion A4: Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) Examination
Candidates must have taken the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects.
Criterion A5: Prior admission to IITs
An applicant must have been admitted to an IIT via an academic program listed in the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 or before, regardless of whether or not the candidate previously reported “online” or at a “reporting center” for an IIT seat, they may not have remained in the program. Candidates who were denied admission to IITs after enrolling are ineligible to take the JEE (Advanced) 2025 exam.
JEE Advance 2025 Eligibility Criteria: Foreign National Candidates
Candidates who are not Indian citizens (by birth or naturalization) (but not Overseas Citizens of India or Persons of Indian Origin). Candidates who achieved OCI/PIO card before 04.03.2021) will be deemed FOREIGN NATIONALS. Foreign national candidates would be considered separately from the 2,50,000 Indian national candidates who have qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2025. Foreign national candidates will receive supernumerary seats, up to 10% of total seats in each course.
