NCERT Solutions Class 10 English Footprints Without Feet Chapter 10 The Book that Saved the Earth

Claire Bioko is the play’s author. The fictional universe is the main theme of the play. The play’s characters include Think Tank, Noodle, Oop, Omega, and more. They are Martian living things, and the play is set in the 20th century. All of the characters made it to an earthly library and mistook the books for sandwiches. Later, kids make an effort to comprehend the book’s rhymes. They instantly abandoned the earth after sensing danger. As a result, a simple children’s book of rhymes prevented the Martian invasion. The performance provides a detailed explanation of how the book protected Earth from a Martian invasion.

NCERT Solutions Class 10 Footprints Without Feet Chapter 10 The Book that Saved the Earth: Solved Textbook Questions

Question 1. Why was the twentieth century called the ‘Era of the Book’?

Answer: There were books written about everything in the twentieth century, from anteaters to Zulus, which is why it was dubbed the “Era of the Book.” People learned how, when, where, and why via books. Books are punctuated, educated, adorned, and illustrated.

Question 2. Who tried to invade the earth in the twenty-first century?

Answer: Invasion attempts by Martians on Earth occurred in the twenty-first century.

Read and Find Out (Page No. 65)

Question 1. What guesses are made by Think–Tank about the books found on earth?

Answer: At first, the Think-Tank assumes that the books are sandwiches. He is wrong, argues Noodle, and he believes that books are some type of medium for communication. After that, he speculates that the books are a form of ear communication. He comes to the conclusion that they are employed in eye communication.

Think About It

Question 1. Noodle avoids offending Think-Tank but at the same time he corrects his mistakes. How does he manage to do that?

Answer: While trying to avoid upsetting Think-Tank, Noodle also makes sure to fix his errors. Every time he believes Think-Tank is incorrect, he praises Think-Tank first before presenting his own ideas and claiming that they are merely random bits of information in his head. By doing this, he informs Think-Tank of the truth without giving him the impression that he is being corrected.

Question 2. If you were in Noodle’s place, how would you handle Think-Tank’s mistakes?

Answer: If I were in Noodle’s place, I would try to politely correct Think-Tank’s mistakes and suggest corrections.

Question 3. Do you think books are being replaced by electronic media? Can we do away with books altogether?

Answer: Yes, the rise of digitization has led to the replacement of books by electronic media. The use of paperback books is no longer necessary thanks to e-books and online courses.

No, I don’t think we can completely abandon books since, despite the trend toward electronic media, books still have a place in our culture. Many millions of people enjoy reading books. E-books will never be able to replace the feel and satisfaction of reading a physical book while holding it in your hands and turning the pages.

Question 4. Why are books referred to as a man’s best companion? Which is your favourite book and why? Write a paragraph about that book.

Answer: Books are referred to as a man’s best friend since they lead us, educate us, make us laugh or cry, inspire us to reflect, and aid in our personal growth. The constant companions in our lives are books. They share their wisdom and knowledge. They offer us opportunities to grow, have fun, and be inspired.

(Student can write the name of his/her favourite book and explain what he/she likes about the book.)

Talk About It

Question 1. In what ways does Think-Tank misinterpret innocent nursery rhymes as threats to the Martians? Can you think of any incidents where you misinterpreted a word or an action? How did you resolve the misunderstanding?

Answer: Think-Tank misinterprets innocent nursery rhymes as threats to the Martians.

Omega reads the lines from the rhyme:

“Mistress Mary, quite contrary,

How does your garden grow?

With cockle shells and silver bells

And pretty maids all in a row”

Listening to the above lines, Think-Tank thinks that people on Earth are so advanced that they can actually grow crops of rare metals and high explosives.

Iota reads another rhyme from the book:

“Hey diddle diddle! The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon,

The little dog laughed to see such sport,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.”

Listening to the above lines, Think-Tank thinks that Earthlings have taught their domesticated animals musical culture and space techniques. Even their dogs have a sense of humour.

Oop reads lines from another rhyme:

“Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall…”

Listening to this, Think-Tank gets frightened because the picture of the Humpty-Dumpty resembles Think-Tank’s mighty balloon brain. He thinks that the Earthlings have seen him and are after him. He infers that the people on Earth are planning to capture Mars Central Control and him.

(Students can include any incident where he/she misinterpreted a word or an action and explain how he/she resolved the misunderstanding.)

Question 2. The aliens in this play speak English. Do you think this is their language? What could be the language of the aliens?

Answer: No, I do not believe that they are able to grasp what is written in the book Mother Goose, hence I do not believe that English is their native tongue. They believe that the words are codes comprised of tiny lines, squiggles, and dots.

These aliens could speak a martian language because they are martians.
