What is NDA and what is the selection process for NDA?

NDA stands for National Defense Academy and is a joint service function of the Indian Armed Forces where the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force train together. After training, they go to their respective service works.

The selection process for NDA consists of a written test followed by an interview and a medical examination. The written examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission and each examination consists of 2 papers: a Mathematics paper, General Aptitude Test. The Mathematics paper is 300 marks and General Ability Test is 600 marks. A duration of two and a half hours is given for each.

The candidates who qualify for the written test are called for an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board. The interview consists of various tests such as Intelligence Test, Group Task, and Personal Interview, all designed to assess the candidates’ officer-like mastery, leadership and ability, and other attributes essential to serving the Armed Forces.

At the end of this, the selected candidates have to undergo a medical examination to ensure that they meet the medical demands required to serve in the Armed Forces. Candidates who fulfill all these are selected for training in NDA.

NDA Selection Process: NDA Eligibility Criteria

The age limit to appear in the exam is organized by the Union Public Service Commission. The eligibility criteria for the NDA exam are as follows:

  • Age Limit: Candidates must be born between July 2, 2004, and July 1, 2007. This means that the age of the candidates should be between a minimum of 16.5 years and a maximum of 19.5 years.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 12th or its equivalent examination from any recognized board.
  • Nationality: NDA candidates must be Indian citizens, a subject of Bhutan, a subject of Nepal, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962.

NDA Selection Process: What are the educational qualifications required for NDA?

The educational qualification for the NDA exam can be something like this –

  • For Army, candidates must have passed the 12th or its equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • For Air Force and Navy day, candidates must have passed the 12th class or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. The candidate must obtain 60% marks in the 12th.

It is important to note that the candidates are required to fulfill the prescribed educational qualification criteria at the time of submitting their application form. Candidates not fulfilling the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

NDA Selection Process: What are the physical fitness requirements for NDA?

Physical fitness is an important aspect of selection in the National Defense Academy. The physical fitness requirements for NDA are as follows-

  • Height and Weight: The minimum height required for a male candidate is 157 cm and for a female candidate the same height is 152 cm. Weight should be in proportion to age.
  • Eyesight: The minimum acceptable vision standard for distant vision is 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other eye, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia. Myopia should not be more than -2.5 D and astigmatism not be more than 3.5 D in any meridian.
  • Fitness: Candidates must be physically fit as per the standards prescribed by the Armed Forces Medical Services. They should not have any medical condition that may prevent them from participating in physical training or military activities.
  • Physical Test: Candidates have to undergo various physical tests such as running, push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups as a part of the selection process. The standards for these tests are set by the Academy and candidates have to clear them to get selected.

You can specifically follow the steps given below to prepare for the NDA selection process-

First of all, understand the pattern of the NDA exam, after that, you have to see the syllabus: Under the syllabus of the exam, Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, and Current Affairs are included in the rally. Make a study plan according to the need to read all these.
