Neeraj Chopra Wins First-ever Gold Medal in Athletics for India
Neeraj Chopra is the first-ever gold athlete in India. He threw a distance of 87.58m in the men’s javelin throw final at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 to become India’s second individual gold medallist.
He was into sports from an early age. At first, he aspired to become an army officer so that he could serve his nation. After he got selected for the Subedar post, he continued regular practicing to get to his dream location, the Olympics.
At last, after a lot of practicing he took part in javelin throw (Tokyo Olympics 2021) and became a gold medalist. He now aims to continue taking part in the next Olympics so that he can break his own record.
He has received huge funding’s from the entire nation. This was to encourage him to continue pursuing his dream and making India proud. We are sure that he will keep making us proud. He now continues his responsibilities too as a Subedar.
About Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra is an Indian athlete and junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army. He won the gold medal at Olympics for Javelin’s throw at a distance of 88.58 m. Chopra was the flag bearer at the 2018 Asian Games.
His first throw at 87.86 m guaranteed an entry to Tokyo Olympics. He also hurt his elbow in the process but kept going. Such is his sportsmanship spirit. His only advice for his fellow juniors is to try avoiding injury. He sustained an injury which took about three to four months for complete recovery.
He says that these three to four months were crucial for him as he was advised to take bed rest and could not continue his regular practice sessions for the Olympics.
