NEET Exam Cancelled 2024 Reasons
Starting from the Declaration of the NEET UG 2024 result, the controversy regarding the result began. Six students from a center in Faridabad, Haryana, made the list of students who achieved a perfect 720, which is unique in the history of the NTA and raised questions about irregularities. On June 10, a large number of students demonstrated in Delhi to demand an investigation into purported anomalies. It has been claimed that grace marks played a part in 67 students sharing the top spot. Check some of the inconsistencies that lead to distrust among candidates.
- The NEET exam result was supposed to be declared on June 14 but it was released 10 days before on June 4 along with the Indian General Election results
- 67 candidates scored full 720 marks, a rare phenomenon not only in the history of NEET exam but all other competitive exams in India.
- 6 students from the same center in Haryana scored full marks.
- A student and his associates were arrested in Bihar for cheating during the NEET exam. The student confessed that he was given answers a day before the actual exam.
- Students were awarded marks like 718 out of 720 that is technically impossible. The NTA clarified on this issue that it gave grace marks due to time loss.
- The marks vs rank of candidates in NEET 2024 exam has increased manifolds that is quite unusual
The apex court of the country, however, declined to halt the admissions counselling process that is scheduled to take place from July 6.
NEET Exam 2024 Cancelled: Grace Marks
The grace marks was awarded to candidates in the NEET exam after a few Writ Petitions were filed by the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024 before the Hon’ble High Court of Punjab & Haryana, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh, raising concerns of loss of exam time during the conduct of NEET (UG) 2024 on May 05, 2024, at few Exam Centers. According to NTA, the grace marks was given as per the decision of the Supreme Court given in regard to CLAT exam in 2018.
But there is a huge difference between NEET exam and CLAT exam. The CLAT exam is held online and contains timers that can ascertain the exact amount of time lost by the student in exam. The NEET exam is held in offline mode and there is no solid mechanism that can be used to know about the actual time lost by the candidates due to some issues at the exam center. Therefore, the Supreme Court ordered the NTA to look into this matter. The NTA then finally cancelled the result for the students who got grace marks.
NEET Exam Cancelled 2024: Re-Exam
The NTA released the NEET 2024 re-exam notification on its official website. The NTA will conduct the NEET 2024 re-exam on June 23, 2024. The result for the NEET UG 2024 re-exam will be published on June 30, 2024. The exam will be held in offline mode from 2 PM to 5:20 PM in offline mode. The NTA will soon release the NEET UG re-exam admit card for the students who are going to take the exam. Only 1563 candidates will be allowed to retake the exam. The re-exam is optional for these students.
In the event that a candidate declines to take part in the reexamination, their results will be determined by using the actual marks they received on May 5, 2024, without any kind of payment. The marks from the May 5, 2024, exam will not be taken into account for applicants who choose to retake it. Instead, their updated scores will be taken into account.
