NEET Revised Answer Key 2024: Controversial Question
During hearing on the NEET UG 2024 irregularities the SC had asked the Director of IIT Delhi to set up a team of three experts for going into the particular question of physics and submit a report on the correct answer. The question reads:
Given below are two statements:
Statement I: Atoms are electrically neutral as they contain equal number of positive and negative charges.
Statement II: Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum.
“In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
(1) Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.
(2) Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
(3) Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.
(4) Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.
Upon the release of the answer key, choice (a) or option (1) was displayed as the correct response on the NEET website. On the other hand, a number of students challenged the answer key, arguing that both claims were accurate based on material from an earlier NCERT edition.
Therefore, NTA granted grace marks to students who selected option (d) or (4) as their response based on this reasoning. As per the new NCERT material, option (04) or (d) is the correct answer while the old NCERT textbook mentions option (01) or (a) as the correct answer. As a result, 44 students , who ideally ought to have scored 715 out of 720, achieved a flawless 720.
Over 4.20 lakh students selected option (d) or (4) based on an older NCERT textbook edition, while 9.28 lakh students chose an answer (option 4) aligned with the latest NCERT edition.
