NTA has revised the NEET UG 2025 exam pattern after expert recommendation. The NEET exam pattern 2025 has been made similar to the exam format that existed before the onset of COVID 19. The optional questions have been eliminated from NEET. There will now be 180 questions instead of 200 questions. The overall duration of the NEET 2025 has decreased from 200 minutes to 180 minutes (3 hours). The NEET 2025 will be held on the first Sunday of May, i.e., on May 04, 2025 from 2 PM to 5 PM.
Announcing the latest NEET UG exam pattern, the NTA has said, “Aspirants are hereby informed that the question paper pattern and examination duration will revert to the pre-COVID format. where there will not be any Section B anymore. Hence, there will be a total of 180 compulsory questions (45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry and 90 in Biology) which will be attempted by the candidates in 180 minutes thereby removing any optional questions and extra time introduced due to COVID.”
NEET Exam Pattern 2025 Revised
The NTA has revised the NEET exam pattern 2025 after recommendations from the expert committee. NTA has eliminated the optional questions along with section B from the NEET exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) revealed the comprehensive NEET 2025 exam pattern and structure on February 7, 2025, alongside the notification and the information bulletin for NEET 2025. The NTA announced both the NEET 2025 exam date and the NEET 2025 application form on February 7, 2025. Will the NEET Exam Pattern Change for 2025?
Yes, the NEET 2025 exam pattern has been changed. The NEET UG exam will now no longer contain the optional questions and two-section per subject, i.e. the NEET UG 2025 question paper will no longer be divided into section A and section B. There will be only one dedicated section per subject now, with 45 questions each in physics and chemistry and 90 questions in Biology. The NEET 2025 takes place in a traditional pen-and-paper format. The time limit of the exam has been reduced from 200 minutes to 180 minutes. While the NTA has revised the exam pattern, the NEET UG syllabus 2025 has remained the same.
NEET 2025 Exam Pattern- An Overview of the Question Paper
Prospective medical students seeking MBBS and BDS admissions should have knowledge of the NEET 2025 exam pattern. NEET 2025 Marking Scheme
The NTA has kept the NEET UG 2025 marking scheme same like the previous year. As per the latest NEET exam pattern 2025, the marking scheme is given below.
- Four marks (+4) will be given for each right response.
- The total will be reduced by (-1) one mark for each inaccurate or erroneous response.
- Unanswered or un-attempted questions will not result in a mark deduction or mark addition.
- A candidate’s response will be deemed incorrect and one mark will be subtracted (-1) if they have checked two or more options on the OMR sheet.
- Only candidates who marked any of the correct answers will receive the bonus four marks in the event that more than one option is determined to be accurate.
- Only the candidates who attempted the question will receive the (+4) four marks in the event that all four alternatives are determined to be accurate.

NEET 2025 Total Marks
The total marks in the NEET UG 2025 exam is 720. As there are 180 compulsory questions and each question amounts to 4 marks, making the total 720. It means that the NEET UG 2025 maximum marks is similar to the last year. No candidate in the exam can receive marks greater than the total marks.
NEET 2025 Exam Medium
As per the latest NEET exam pattern 2025, the NEET UG exam will be held in 13 different languages. These languages are English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

NEET Exam Pattern 2025- Important Instructions for OMR Sheets Filling
NTA has proposed these instructions for completing the NEET OMR sheet:
- Responses must be filled out using a ballpoint pen that will be supplied in the exam room.
- Modifying responses on the OMR sheet is prohibited.
- Removing or destroying any information written on the OMR sheet is an offense that can lead to punishment.
- All rough work must be carried out solely in the test booklet.
- A Candidate should not neglect to indicate the test booklet code on the OMR sheet.
- Applicants need to verify that the NEET question paper code corresponds with the OMR sheet code.
NEET 2025 Exam Pattern- Key Points to Remember While Exam Medium Selection
When choosing the medium or language for the NEET question paper, candidates should consider the following points:
- The language of the question paper must be chosen when completing the NEET application form.
- After the NEET application form is submitted, the chosen language cannot be altered.
- Candidates intending to choose English as their medium will receive the Test Booklet exclusively in the English language.
- Candidates choosing any other language will receive a Bilingual Test Booklet featuring their chosen language and English.
- In case of any uncertainty in the translation of questions, the English version of the NEET question paper will be considered definitive.
