In a recent press release, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified the NEET UG 2025 eligibility of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) students. Since long, there has been ongoing confusion regarding the eligibility of NIOS Students for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate 2025.

To dismiss this, NMC’s clarification comes in response to concerns about disparities between the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) NEET-UG Bulletin 2025 and NMC regulations. The commission emphasized that students who attended NIOS, state open schools, or private candidates are eligible to take the NEET UG under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023

NEET UG 2025 Eligibility for NIOS Students- What NMC Said?

The NMC’s response follows an RTI appeal to determine whether NIOS students are eligible to take NEET UG 2025. In response to an RTI application dated February 11, 2025, the NMC indicated that misunderstanding about NIOS students’ eligibility had emerged as a result of varying interpretations of the Information Bulletin.

Can NIOS students apply for NEET UG 2025?

Yes. The students who have completed their 12th or currently studying from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), State Open Schools, or as a private candidate. Wait! there is a condition. As per the NMC’s reply to the RTI appeals, the board says that students learning through NIOS are eligible to take the NEET UG exam, according to GMER-23 norms. The notice also added that they are permitted to study an additional subject from NIOS with the condition that the study needs to be carried out by any authorized institutions.

NEET UG 2025 Registration is Underway

The National Testing Agency (NTA) initiated the online registration procedure for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2025) via the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. According to the announcement, individuals can submit their application form until March 7, 2025. It is highly advised students read the NEET eligibility requirements mentioned in the notification before applying.

The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole admission test or admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BAMS, Veterinary, and other medical/paramedical programs in India. The exam is administered once a year in offline or paper-pencil-based test (PBT) format for three hours and twenty minutes, or 200 minutes. This year’s exam has been modified, and there will be no optional questions. The NEET Exam Pattern includes 200 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
