UNESCO World Heritage Site India 2024

UNESCO World Heritage Sites- A landmark or region that has legal protection under a global agreement overseen by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization is known as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO). UNESCO names places as World Heritage Sites when they are considered to be of significant cultural, historical, scientific, or other value. According to the assessment, the locations have “cultural and natural heritage from all over the world that is thought to be of extraordinary worth to humanity.”

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Criteria for Selection

A World Heritage Site must be an unusual landmark that is easily recognised geographically and historically and has outstanding cultural or physical importance in order to be chosen. World Heritage Sites could include, for instance, historical or ancient ruin sites, as well as buildings, towns, deserts, forests, islands, lakes, monuments, mountains, or wilderness regions. A World Heritage Site may be a location of outstanding natural beauty or it may represent a significant human achievement that serves as proof of our intellectual past on the planet. There are currently 1,154 World Heritage Sites in 167 nations, including 897 cultural, 218 natural, and 39 combined properties. Italy is the nation with the most sites on the list, having 58 areas that were chosen.
