Vedic Maths Addition Tricks
Vedic Maths can be employed to add two numbers. The trick to add numbers using Vedic Maths is discussed below in a detailed manner by taking the example case of 97 + 38.
Step 1: Determine the number that most closely resembles the multiple of ten.
Forty is the nearest multiple of 10 for 38.
The value 100 is the closest to the 10s multiple for 97.
Step 2: Add the multiples of tens to the numbers.
140 is 40 plus 100.
Step 3: Add or subtract the shortfall in numbers.
There is a 2 deficit in number 38.
There is a 3 shortfall in number 97.
Thus, 140-(2 + 3) = 140-5
= 135
Vedic Maths Multiplication Tricks
The Vedic Maths multiplication trick is one of the two most widely used tricks for doing faster calculation. The other trick that is considerably used is the tricks for finding the square. Multiplication is complex when the values of the number to be multiplied increases a threshold. We all must have memorized table up to 20, but what about the numbers that come after 20. What about 3 or 4 digit number multiplication. The standard multiplication can be used to solve such problems but it takes more time.
As the competitive exam relies heavily on time management, examiners put lengthy calculations to test the time management skill of candidates. The competitive exam require its candidate to know relevant tricks to compute lengthy calculations. It is why, knowing the Vedic maths tricks is of utmost importance. The most useful Vedic Maths Multiplication tricks is given below with examples.
1) Multiplication of a Number by 5
The multiplication of a number by 5 is one of the most common asked questions in all the board and competitive exams. We can multiply any number by 5 based whether it is odd or even. The multiplication by 5 trick is given below with examples.
For Even Number
2244 x 5 =?
Step 1: Find the half of 2244, i.e., 2244/ 2 = 1122
Step 2: Add 0 as the last digit of the result
So, The answer will be 2244 x 5 = 11220
For Odd Number
3545 x 5 = ?
Step 1: As odd number is uneven, so we find the half of 1 lees than the odd number; so ( 3545 – 1) / 2 = 1772
Step 2: As it is an odd number, so instead of 0 we will put 5
The answer will be 3545 x 5 = 17725
2) Multiplication of 2-Digit Numbers (11-19)
Using this Vedic Trick, you may multiply any two-digit number from 11 to 19 fast and precisely. It’s one of the useful vedic math tricks for multiplication. You will be able to compute more quickly than a calculator after a few practice runs.
Step 1: Add the larger number by the smaller number’s unit digit.
Step 2: Multiply the outcome by ten.
Step 3: Multiply the numbers’ unit digits.
Step 4: Then perform the addition of the two numbers
Example: Multiplication of 13 and 15
Step 1: 15 + 3 = 18.
Step 2: 18 * 10 = 180.
Step 3: 3 * 5 = 15.
Step 4: Add 180 + 15 = 195.
3) Multiplication of 3-Digit Number
We can also multiply 3-digit numbers using the Vedic maths tricks.
For example, we can find the multiplication of 526 and 143 using the trick.
Step 1: Multiply 3 by the 526 unit digits.
3 × 6 = 18. Since 18 is a two-digit number, we write 1 in the tens place above 2 and 8 in the one’s place.
Step 2: Multiply 2×3 + 4×6 + Carried number that is1
We write 1 in the tens place and 3 in the hundreds place above 5. We obtain 2 × 3 + 4 × 6 + 1 = 31.
Step 3: Multiply 3×5 + 4×2 + 1×6 + Carried number which is 3 in this case
We write 2 in the hundreds place and 3 in the hundreds place above 5. We obtain 3 × 5 + 4 × 2 + 1 × 6 + 3 = 32.
Step 4: Multiply 4×5 + 1×2 + the carried number, or 3.
We write 5 in the thousands position and 2 above 5 in 4 × 5 + 1 × 2 + 3 = 25.
Step5: The final step is to multiply 1×5 + the carrying number, or 2.
We obtain 1 × 5 + 2 = 7, thus in the solution, put 7 before 5.
Our final solution is 526 × 143 = 75218.
4) Multiplication of Two Numbers in which one Number Contains only 9
When a number has all nines in it, the Vedic maths tricks can be employed. The steps used to solve this type of multiplication when the multiplier (number with nines) and the multiplicand have the same number of digits is given below.
Step 1: One less than the multiplicand is the first component of the solution.
Step 2: The multiplicand’s complement makes up the second portion of the solution.
Example: 47 x 99
Step 1: 47 – 1 = 46
Step 2: 100-47 = 53
so, the answer is 4653
5) Multiplication of 2-Digit Numbers by 11
We can find the multiplication of any two digit number by 11 by using the Vedic Maths tricks given below.
For example if we want to multiply 34 x 11
The trick is: 3(3+4)4 = 374
Vedic Maths Division Tricks
We can find the value after the division of any large number by 5 through the following Vedic Maths trick.
Step 1: Multiply the number by 2
Step 2: Put the decimal value after 1 digit from the right
Example: 9763/5
Step 1: 9763 x 2 = 19,526
Step 2: 1952.6
hence, the solution is 1952.6
Vedic Maths Subtraction Tricks
We can use the Vedic Maths tricks to subtract the number from multiples of 100, i.e., 10000 or 1000, or 100000, and so on. The trick here is to subtract each digit of the number (the number to be subtracted) from 9 except the unit digit, which must be subtracted by 10.
Example: 1000 – 476
So, 9-4 = 5
9 – 7 = 2
10 – 6 = 4
Hence, the answer will be 524
Vedic Maths Tricks for Finding Square
Another most widely used area of Vedic Maths is to find the square of certain numbers. As finding the square of a number involves lots of calculation, we can employ the tricks provided in Vedic Maths for this purpose. Some of those tricks are discussed hereunder.
1) Square of Numbers with Unit Digit 5
The Vedic maths trick to find the square of a number who has 5 in its unit digit is summarized herein.
Step 1: Write 25 as the last two digit in the result
Step 2: multiply the tens digit with its immediate successor
Example: 65²
Step 1: 5×5= 25
Step 2: 6(6+1) = 42
hence, the result = 4225
2) Square of any Number
We can find the square of any number by using the Vedic maths trick given below.
Step 1: Choose a base that is near the starting number whose unit digit is 0.
Step 2: Determine the difference between the original number and the base in step two.
Step 3: Add the difference obtained and the actual number.
Step 4: Multiply the Step 3 outcome by the base chosen.
Step 5: Square the difference and add it with the outcome from the Step 4.
Example : 101²
Step 1: base = 100
Step 2: 101-100 = 1
Step 3: 101 + 1 = 102
Step 4: 102 x 100 = 10200
Step 5: 10200 + (1)²
hence, the final answer is 10201
