Which stream should I choose between Maths and Biology for Class 11?

What to choose in Class 11th Math or Bio?

With the advancement of technology, new disciplines of science are being introduced all the time. Medical, engineering, pharmacy, and other science fields are common. Students can pursue a job or higher study in a variety of subjects after completing 10th grade, including Biochemistry, Dental Science, Genetics, Pharmacy, Astronomy, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, and others, in addition to the more usual alternatives of medical and engineering.

Students must determine their primary talents and interests before selecting the stream that best matches their abilities and interests. Get a good understanding of the available streams before choosing one. This will assist you in selecting the appropriate stream. Make sure you pick a stream that suits your interests and abilities. During the selection process, future scope and career prospects should be considered as well.

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, and English are the primary disciplines in the science stream. Another language topic is available to students at their discretion. However, most students are torn between choosing Mathematics or Biology as their major.

When should you go for PCM?

Do you enjoy working with numbers? Do you love tackling different types of math problems? Is IIT your ambition? Do you wish to work in the field of engineering in any capacity? If you responded yes to any of the following questions, PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) is the course for you.

By selecting out of biology, all medical-related options are immediately blocked. Marine engineering, biomedical engineering, genetic engineering, and other fields of engineering require biology as a subject in 11th and 12th grades.

When should you go for PCB?

If you want to be a doctor, you should concentrate on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (or PCB) in 11th grade. If you are not interested in engineering but enjoy studying biology, the medical stream may be a suitable fit for you. PCB is also the route to go if you are convinced that Math is not your cup of tea!

By skipping math in 11th and 12th grade, alternatives such as architecture and all areas of engineering are immediately closed. So choose PCB just if you despise arithmetic and want to work in medicine.

How To Make the Right Decision For Your Subject?

1. Consider your long-term professional objectives

This is a difficult but necessary step. Consider your future and move backwards from there to where you are now. You should consider what is most essential to you. Do you like structure and working alone, or do you prefer to collaborate with others? Do you like regularity or flexibility in your life? These are crucial questions that will help you determine the type of job you want to pursue and then the appropriate Subject stream to get you there.

2. Develop self-awareness

When you’re unsure about anything, ask yourself these questions:

  • Is it true that I enjoy mathematics?
  • Is it something I’m excellent at, and might I improve with the correct supervision and coaching?
  • Will I devote time to practising Math in order to boost my marks in class 11?

3. Take an active role in making decisions

Take an active role in decision-making by conducting your own research, meeting and speaking with classmates, parents, and instructors. Look for Webinars, Projects, and Internships that can assist you in learning more. Above all, keep in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. The aim is to take the time to get to know yourself and be honest about your choices. Success in every area requires hard effort; if you are prepared to give it your all, you will be successful regardless of the circumstances.

Question 1. In class 11, which is easier: math or biology?

Ans. Biology will be significantly tougher than math. In Bio, there will be a few application questions, but they will mostly be surface-level thinking problems.

Question 2. Is Biology 11 difficult?

Ans. Many students choose Biology because they believe it is a simple and engaging topic. However, after students examine the extensive curriculum for class 11, they know that getting decent grades in this subject would take some effort. Class 11 Biology has an entirely different syllabus from class 10.

Question 3. Which has a wider scope: medical or non-medical?

Ans. There are no parallels. Both can have very distinct goals. Science, engineering, and medicine all have a good scope. Give it your all in any subject you pick.
