Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2025 have been published at https://www.timeshighereducation.com/. The List includes 2,092 universities, with 185 new entries compared to the previous year.
The University of Oxford has once again been named the top university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 which marks the ninth consecutive year that Oxford has held the number one spot. In the Indian education industry, the Indian Institute of Technology Indore and UPES are among the largest gainers in the 501-600 band.
World University Rankings 2025
The World University Rankings are an informative resource for prospective students, academic institutions, and governments to evaluate universities’ global position. Every year, the Times Higher Education releases these rankings based on a comprehensive evaluation of university performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
As per the World University Rankings 2025, Oxford University has regained its top ranking. This is Oxford’s ninth straight year at number one, cementing its status as a global leader in higher education.
While Oxford has retained its dominance, there have been significant changes in the rankings below. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ranked second, is now the highest-ranked university in the United States. It displaced Stanford University, which fell from second to sixth place.

World University Rankings 2025 India List
In the World University Rankings 2025 List, many Indian universities have been ranked. India’s participation has increased overall, with 133 universities cutting this year, up from 122 in 2024. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) continues to lead India’s intellectual push, ranking 251-300 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2025.
