In a recent development, the Department of Education (DOE) has issued an order to the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to cancel the candidature of an applicant who had successfully cleared the DSSSB Exam for the TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) Sanskrit Female post. This decision comes after the document verification process revealed that the candidate held a BEd Special Education degree, which was deemed not equivalent to the required BEd degree for the position.
The candidate in question had been nominated by the DSSSB for the coveted TGT Sanskrit Female post. Following her nomination, she was summoned for document verification through an official memorandum dated 12 December 2023. The purpose of this verification was to enable her to confirm her acceptance of the Offer of Appointment letter.
DOE BEd Notice on Cancellation of Candidature for TGT Sanskrit Post
However, in accordance with the Recruitment Rules (RRs), it was explicitly stated that candidates should possess a degree or diploma in teaching. Upon scrutiny of the candidates in question’s dossier submitted by the DSSSB, it was revealed that the candidate held a degree in Special B.Ed. It was this discrepancy that led to the DOE’s decision to cancel her candidature.
The crux of the issue lies in the distinction between a BEd Special Education degree and a conventional BEd degree. The DOE’s position is that BEd Special Education is not equivalent to a regular BEd degree, thereby rendering the candidate ineligible for the TGT Sanskrit Female post.
The matter was also looked at from a legal perspective. The Government Counsel, in a letter dated 18 May 2023, agreed with the DOE’s position. They pointed out that because there’s a difference between the two types of degrees, the said candidate couldn’t be chosen for the TGT Sanskrit Female post. The legal expert’s opinion highlighted that the qualification of the candidate didn’t meet the requirements that the DSSSB RRs (Recruitment Rules) had set.
Taking these factors into account, the DOE officially withdrew the appointment offer for the TGT Sanskrit Female post (post code- 55/21) in Level 7 Pay Matrix (Pre-revised Pay Band- 9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs. 4600/-) along with the usual allowances. The withdrawal was in alignment with the Competent Authority’s prior approval.
The candidature cancellation has prompted further actions, with the candidate’s E-dossier file being forwarded to the DSSSB for necessary follow-up proceedings.
This incident underscores the significance of adhering to the specified qualifications and requirements when applying for government posts. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding the nuances between different degrees and their applicability in various professional contexts.
