Why BTech Students are not Eligible for UGC NET Exams ?
The UGC conducts exams for Master Degree students who want to pursue as Assistant professor in College or University. B.Tech students are not eligible to give UGC exams because UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various universities and colleges in India.
To be eligible for UGC NET, candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks (50% marks for reserved categories) from a recognized university. B.Tech is a four-year undergraduate degree in engineering, which does not fulfill the eligibility criteria for UGC NET.
Golden Opportunity For BTech Students for CSIR NET Qualified
Since BTECH students belong to the science field they are having separate exam called CSIR NET. CSIR NET stands for the “Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test”. It is a test for determining eligibility for lectureship and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in the fields of science and engineering. The test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Engineering students can appear for the CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test). CSIR NET is conducted for five subjects: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Earth Sciences. B.Tech graduates can appear for the Mathematical Sciences and Chemical Sciences exams if they have completed their B.Tech degree in relevant fields such as Chemical Engineering or Mathematics.
Qualification Required for appearing in CSIR NET exam
To be eligible for the CSIR NET exam, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks (50% marks for reserved categories) from a recognized university. B.Tech graduates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the CSIR NET exam and pursue a career in research and teaching in their respective fields. Candidates cannot become eligible for the lectureship after clearing the CSIR UGC NET exam. For getting the post of assistant professor they need to have masters in their respective subject.
CSIR NET exam Age Limit Criteria
The maximum age limit notified for the award of a Joint Research Fellowship (JRF) in CSIR NET category is 28 years as of July 01, 2022. Age relaxation of 5 years for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) and female applicants) and 3 years for OBC – Non-creamy layer candidates is allowed.
Can Engineering Students give UGC NET Exam?
Engineering graduates can’t give UGC NET exam. To sit for the UGC NET exam, candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university. They are eligible to give CSIR NET (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Eligibility Test) if they want to pursue research or lectureship in the coming time in fields of science which comes under CSIR NET.
