UGC NET exam is a national level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and its purpose is to determine the eligibility of the candidate for college and university-level lectureship and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals. UGC NET June 2024 Cycle Notification has been released and will be going to held on 18 June 2024.

UGC NET Exam pattern Subjects for Paper 2
UGC NET Examination held in 83 subjects of Arts, Commerce and Science Field. The UGC NET exam comprises two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2 which are held consecutively without any break. Total 3 hours are given to a candidate to complete both papers. Candidates are free to devote any amount of time to any paper.

- Paper 1: This Paper is compulsory for all applicants appearing for UGC NET exam. It is designed to test the overall aptitude and suitability of candidates for teaching and research positions in universities and colleges across India. The subjects of this paper are teaching aptitude, research aptitude, communication, reasoning etc. It consist of 50 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each.
- Paper 2: This paper is based on the subject chosen by the aspirant from the list of 83 subjects provided by UGC. This paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each. The list of subjects from which the candidate has to choose one is as follows;

Can I give UGC NET Exam in more than one Subject?
Yes, one can give exam in more than one subject but not simultaneously. Like if a candidate has done masters in more than one subject then he or she can obviously apply for UGC NET Exam in those subjects but in different cycles i.e. June and December Cycle of UGC NET exam. NTA NET Exam is conducted twice in a year in June and December cycle. Candidate can choose any of the cycle for giving NET exam in more than one subject.
Candidate can select one subject for June Cycle and another subject for December Cycle. Let’s say if candidate has Masters in English (MA English) and Masters in Sociology (MA Sociology) than he or she can apply for NTA NET exam in English as well as Sociology but not in the same cycle.
Eligibility for Appearing in UGC NET Exam more than one Subject
Candidates who want to apply for more than one subject should have to take care of following important points. This will help the candidates aspiring to appear for different subjects in UGC NET exam:
- If candidate wants to apply for more than one subject then he or she should have Master degree with at least 55% marks in all the respective subjects for which they want to apply.
- Separate application form needs to be filled by applicant for every subject.
- They have to pay separate application fee also with every application.
- If the candidate wants to apply for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) then they can only apply till the age of 30 years.
- It should be kept in mind that one applicant is allowed to submit only one application form for one subject at a time. If candidate submits multiple application forms at a time than the candidature is likely to be cancelled.
Benefit of cracking UGC NET exam in multiple subjects:
As Candidate are appearing in UGC NET Examination, the Major benefit that a candidate has if he or she clears NTA NET in different subjects is that the scope of career opportunities gets wider. Since, by having NET in different subjects the candidate can apply for the Assistant professor in any of the subject.
However, one can give exams for different subjects of his/ her choice separately as there is no restriction imposed by UGC on the number of people attempting the exam. However, there is an upper age limit of 30 years of age for appearing for JRF Certification.
