CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria

The Joint CSIR-UGC NET is an eligibility exam for Indian nationals seeking careers in research and academia. Qualifying the exam opens doors for Junior Research Fellowships, allowing research under expert guidance, and makes you eligible for Assistant Professor positions and Ph.D. programs in science fields at Indian universities and R&D institutions. Remember, universities may have additional requirements for Ph.D. admissions and Assistant Professor roles.

CSIR NET Eligibility Essential Educational Qualifications

Candidates may check the essential qualification as per their respective course from the given below article. The NTA has set a minimum educational qualification for candidates interested in the CSIR NET exam.

  • Eligibility: Indian nationals holding a Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field from a recognized university/institution (minimum 55% marks for General/Unreserved/EWS category candidates). OR final year Bachelor’s degree students in a relevant scientific field from a recognized university/institution (minimum 75% marks, grading system applies).
  • Application: Candidates appearing for their final year Bachelor’s degree examinations or awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
  • Qualifying Outcomes: A candidate qualifying with a Master’s degree is eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (Assistant Professor) positions, along with Ph.D. program admission (may require additional university-specific criteria). A candidate qualifying with a final year Bachelor’s degree is eligible for JRF and Ph.D. program admission only.
  • Important Note: Qualifying with a four-year Bachelor’s degree does not entitle a candidate for Assistant Professor positions.
  • Ph.D. Subject Selection: Final year Bachelor’s degree students can appear for the exam to choose their desired Ph.D. specialization.

CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria Age Limit & Nationality

Candidates must need to follow all the CSIR NET Eligibility 2024 requirements to appear in the upcoming CSIR NET exam. Candidates need to follow the prescribed Age Limit set by NTA.  The detailed CSIR NET Age Limit Criteria for the JRF & Lectureship have been mentioned below for different positions.

CSIR NET JRF Age Limit

  • Maximum age limit : Not more than 30 years as on the 1st day of the month in which the examination is concluded i.e. June, 2024
  • Candidates from the reserved categories such as  (SC/ST/Persons with Disability/ Third Gender and female applicants) may be relaxable up to 5 years and OBC – Non-creamy layer candidates) may have the upper age limit relaxed by up to 3 years, respectively.

CSIR NET Assistant Professor Age Limit

  • There is no stipulated upper age limit for the Lectureship position.

There is no upper age limit in applying for Joint CSIR NET for Admission to PhD

CSIR NET Subject-Wise Qualification 2024

Here we are discussing the Subject-Wise Qualification for NET Exam 2024.  Candidates need to score either of the below-mentioned qualifications with at least 55 % marks (for General and OBC Category) or 50% marks (SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates).

Chemical Science Candidate must hold a degree in M.Sc./BS/B-Tech or any other equivalent qualification in Chemistry.
Earth Science Candidate must have completed their M.Sc./BS-MS/BS-4 Years/B-Pharma or any other equivalent degree in Earth Science
Mathematics Candidate must hold M.Sc./BS-MS/BS/B-Tech degree or any other equivalent qualification in Mathematics
Physical Science Candidate must have completed M.Sc. Physics or BS-MS in Physics or any other equivalent qualification.

CSIR NET Reservation Criteria 2024

NTA has also shared the CSIR NET Reservation criteria for the reserved category only. CSIR has mentioned the stipulated norms regarding the marks relaxation for different categories.
