Delhi University to Accept UGC NET Scores for PhD Admissions from 2024-25 Session

The University of Delhi (DU) will now consider scores from the National Eligibility Test (NET) for admissions to its PhD programs, beginning with the academic session 2024-25.   • JRF Admissions: The selection process for admissions under the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) category will be conducted as per the UGC guidelines outlined in its notification dated November 7th, 2022.
  • Weightage for NET Scores and Interview: For students seeking admission under categories combining Assistant Professor and PhD (Category 2) or PhD only (Category 3), the weightage for admissions will be:
    • 70% – NET Exam Score
    • 30% – Interview Performance
  • Validity of NET Scores: The marks obtained in the UGC NET exam will hold validity for a period of one year for applying to PhD programs at DU.
  • Entrance Exams for Specific Programs: The University will conduct its own entrance exams for PhD programs where the UGC does not conduct NET examinations in those specific subjects. Examples include Portuguese, Italian, and some branches of Engineering.

The decision by Delhi University follows the UGC’s notification dated March 27, 2024, which stated: “The University Grants Commission (UGC), vide its notification dated March 27, 2024, decided that from the academic session 2024-25, the National Eligibility Test (NET) score can be used for admission to PhD programs in place of entrance tests conducted by the different Universities/HEIs. Accordingly, from the academic session 2024-25, the University of Delhi will use the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for admission to Ph.D. Programs.”
