Do Guest Teachers Get Paid in Summer Vacation?

Teaching Jobs has always been a booming profession when it comes to India. Mostly Teaching Aspirants prefer Government Teaching Jobs for the stability and security of the job. Therefore, even the Guest Teacher Jobs available in the Delhi Government Schools are also very popular.

Many teaching aspirants often enquire about the scope, job profile, eligibility criteria, selection process and salary of the Guest Teachers in Delhi. One such significant query doing the rounds is Do Guest Teachers Get Paid in Summer Vacation?

The Guest Teachers working in the Delhi Government Schools are recruited contractually. In fact, they are paid on per day basis. Therefore, the Guest Teachers do not get paid during the summer vacation.

In Delhi, there are 22000 Guest Teachers working in various Government Schools. The recruitment of Guest Teachers is finalized by the heads of the Institutions respectively. Some Schools engage guest teachers in various administrative work to help them get their salary.

However, the All India Guest Teachers’ Association has expressed concern over the financial burden faced by these teachers’ families during the two-month vacation period when regular employment is not available.

Rana, the general secretary of the association, has stated that the income from the guest teaching job is crucial for the livelihood of the families, and it is unfair to leave them unemployed for such a long period. Moreover, guest teachers have not received a pay raise for five years, and inflation is adding to their financial woes. Many of them have loans and EMIs to pay off.

On the other hand, Delhi government officials have stated that the heads of institutions are authorized to engage guest teachers for various administrative and other work during the summer vacation, such as examinations, admissions, and ongoing summer camps under Mission Buniyaad. However, prior approval from the deputy director of education of the concerned districts is required, and guest teachers engaged during the vacations will be paid as per norms.
