- Minimum Marks Required:
- General/Unreserved/General-EWS Candidates: Must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination from UGC-recognized institutions.
- SEBC/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender Candidates: Must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
- Final Year Students: Candidates pursuing their Master’s degree or those who have appeared for their final year exams and are awaiting results can apply for GSET. Such candidates will be admitted provisionally. They must complete their Master’s degree with the required percentage of marks within two years from the date of GSET result declaration. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
- Third Gender Category: Candidates from the Third Gender category are eligible for the same relaxation in fee, age, and qualifying criteria as SC/ST categories. The cut-offs for this category will be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PwD/SEBC-NCL categories in the respective subject.
- Ph.D. Degree Holders: Candidates with a Ph.D. degree who completed their Master’s level examination by 19th September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%) for GSET.
- Subject Requirement: Candidates must appear for GSET in the subject of their Master’s degree. If the subject is not listed among GSET subjects, candidates may opt to take UGC NET / UGC – CSIR NET exams instead.
- Prohibition on Re-appearance: Candidates who have already qualified GSET in a subject cannot appear for the test again in the same subject. Violating this rule will result in the cancellation of candidature and the GSET certificate.
- Document Submission: Candidates are not required to send certificates or documents with their application form to the GSET office. They should ensure their eligibility and retain all relevant documents for verification purposes.
