HTET Eligibility Criteria & Age Limit 2024
The Haryana TET is a state-level eligibility test that determines whether candidates are eligible to become teachers in various government schools in Haryana. To appear in the HTET exam 2024, candidates must meet the HTET eligibility criteria and age limit 2024. It is recommended that candidates carefully read through the eligibility criteria for each level – Level I, Level II, and Level III. HTET Minimum Educational Qualification
The HTET examination is conducted in 2024 for three different levels, and the eligibility criteria for each level varies. Therefore, candidates must carefully read the eligibility criteria for all three levels – Level I, Level II, and Level III. HTET Eligibility Criteria for Level II – Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) – Classes 6 to 8
1. TGT Social Studies
- BA/B.Com and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
- BA/B.Com with at least 50% Marks and 2-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed); in accordance with NCTE (Recognition norms and Procedure) Regulation 2009. OR
- BA./B.Com with at least 45% Marks and 2-years Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-years Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR
- BA/B.Com with 50% Marks and 2-year B.Ed (Bachelor of Education).
- In Case of BA/B.Com, in addition to English, a combination of at least two subject with at least 50% marks in aggregate individually in the subject during all the years of study out of the following:

2. TGT Science
- B.Sc and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR

- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); OR

3. TGT Mathematics
- BA/B.Sc/B.Com with at least 50% Marks in Mathematics in as an elective subject and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
- BA/B.Sc/B.Com with at least 50% marks as well as in Mathematics as an elective subject and 2-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) OR
- BA/B.Sc/B.Com with at least 45% marks as well as 50% marks in mathematics as an elective subject and 2-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) in accordance with NCTE (Recognition norm and procedure) Regulation issued from time to time in this regard; OR
- Senior secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) in accordance with NCTE (Recognition norm and Procedure) Regulation, 2007 published on 31st August 2009; OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks 4-year BA/BSc/B.Com.Ed. Or BA.Ed/B.Sc.Ed/B.Com.Ed OR
- BA/B.Sc/B.Com with at least 50% marks as well as in mathematics as an elective subject and 2-year B.Ed
- In the case of B.Ed,
- Mathematics as a teaching subject from a recognized university
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or 10+2/B.A/M.A with Hindi as one of the subjects.
4. TGT English
- B.A with at least 50% marks in English as an elective subject and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
- A with at least 50% marks as well as in English as an elective subject and 2-year Bachelor in Education OR
- B.A with at least 45% as well as 50% in English as an elective subject and 1-year B.Ed OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks in 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR
- B.A with at least 50% marks as well as in English as an elective subject and 1-year B.Ed (Special Education);
- In the case of B.Ed,
- English as a teaching subject from a recognized university;
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or 10+2/B.A/M.A with Hindi as the one of the subjects.
5. TGT Hindi
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Hindi, studied as a compulsory, elective, core, or honors subject. Hindi must also be included as a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Hindi as a compulsory, elective, core, or honors subject. Hindi must be a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education).
The degree must comply with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regulations as per the latest guidelines. OR - A four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Hindi. OR
- A four-year integrated BA B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Hindi.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit in Matric (10th grade) or must have studied Hindi in higher education if not taken in Matric.
6. TGT Sanskrit
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Sanskrit, studied as an elective or honors subject. Sanskrit must also be included as a teaching subject in courses like BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Sanskrit as an elective or honors subject.
Sanskrit must be a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education). This qualification should meet the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) standards as per the latest regulations. OR - A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Sanskrit. OR
- A Shastri degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks. Completion of Shiksha Shastri, Language Teacher Course (L.T.C.), or Original Training (O.T.) in Sanskrit, conducted by the Haryana Government or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Haryana Education Department. OR
- A four-year integrated BA B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Sanskrit.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit in Matric (10th grade), or Hindi as a subject in higher education if not taken in Matric.
7. TGT Punjabi
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Punjabi, taken as an elective or honors subject. Punjabi must also be a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Punjabi, studied as an elective or honors subject. Punjabi must be a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education).
This qualification must comply with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) standards according to the latest regulations. OR
A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Punjabi. OR
A four-year integrated BA B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Punjabi.
AND
The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (10th grade) or must have taken Hindi in higher education if not studied at the Matric level.
8. Urdu
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Urdu, taken as an elective or honors subject. Urdu must also be included as a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Urdu as an elective or honors subject. Urdu must be included as a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education).
- This qualification must adhere to the standards of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) as per current regulations. OR
- A four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Urdu. OR
- A four-year integrated BA B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Urdu.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (10th grade), or must have taken Hindi as a subject in higher education if not studied at the Matric level.
9. TGT Physical Education
- Graduate with a Bachelors of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) or Diploma of Physical Education (D.P.Ed) or its equivalent from a recognized university.
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or 10+2/B.A/M.A with Hindi as one of the Subjects.
10. TGT Home Science
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Home Science, taken as an elective or honors subject. Home Science must also be included as a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Home Science as an elective or honors subject. Home Science must be included as a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education). This qualification must align with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) standards as per the latest regulations. OR
- A four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Home Science. OR
- A four-year integrated BA B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Home Science.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (10th grade), or must have taken Hindi as a subject in higher education if not studied at the Matric level.
11. TGT Art
- A B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) or B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Art, taken as an elective or honors subject. Art must also be included as a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A B.F.A. or B.A. degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Art as an elective or honors subject.
Art must be a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education). This qualification must comply with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) standards according to the latest guidelines. OR - A four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Art. OR
- A four-year integrated B.F.A./B.A./B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Art.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (10th grade) or must have taken Hindi in higher education if not studied in Matric.
12. TGT Music
- A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Music, taken as an elective or honors subject. Music must also be included as a teaching subject in BTC (Basic Training Certificate), JBT (Junior Basic Training), D.Ed. (Diploma in Education), or D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). OR
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in Music, studied as an elective or honors subject. Music must be included as a teaching subject in B.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education). This qualification must comply with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) standards as per the latest regulations. OR
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) with at least 50% marks in Music. OR
- A four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in Music.
AND
- The candidate must have studied either Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (10th grade) or must have taken Hindi in higher education if not studied in Matric.
HTET Eligibility Criteria for Level III – Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) – Classes 9 to 12
The HTET Eligibility Criteria for Level III – Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) for classes 9 to 12 requires candidates to have a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or an equivalent qualification. The B.Ed. must be in the subject the candidate wishes to teach. Candidates with a B.Ed. (Special Education) or a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) may also be eligible, provided the qualifications meet NCTE and RCI standards. These requirements ensure candidates possess both subject expertise and teaching skills.
PGT English, Hindi, Geography, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Punjabi, Urdu, History
The HTET Eligibility Criteria 2024 for 9 subjects- English, Hindi, Geography, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Punjabi, Urdu, History- is the same. Following are the HTET eligibility criteria 2024 for the above-mentioned subjects:
- Post-Graduate Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks from a recognized university and B.Ed. from a recognized university;
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or Sr. Secondary / Graduation / Post Graduation with Hindi as one of the Subjects..

PGT Political Science
- M.A Political Science or M.A Public Administration with at least 50% marks from a recognized university and B.Ed from a recognized university.

PGT Sanskrit
- M.A. Sanskrit/Acharya with atleast 50% marks and B.Ed/ Shiksha Shastri/ Language Teachers Course (L.T.C)/ Oriental Training (O.T.) in Sanskrit from a recognized university or conducted by the Haryana School Education Department or an equivalent qualification recognized by Haryana Education Department;
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or 10+2/B.A./M.A. with Hindi as one of the subjects; & Consistent good academic record.
PGT Biology
- M.Sc. Zoology/ Botany/ Bio-Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Genetics/ Micro Biology/ Plant Physiology/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ Molecular Bio/ Clinical Biochemistry/ Agricultural Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Medical Biotechnology/ Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Biotechnology/ Food Technology/ Forensic Sciences/ Microbial Bio- Technology/ Genomics with at least 50% marks from a recognized university and B.Ed. from recognized university;

PGT Mathematics
- M.A./M.Sc. Math/Applied Mathematics with Mathematics as one of the subject at Graduation level with at least 50% marks from a recognized university and B.Ed. from recognized university;
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or Sr. Secondary/ Graduation/ Post Graduation with Hindi as one of the Subjects.

PGT Commerce
- M.Com. with accounting/ Cost accounting/ financial accounting as a major subject of study with at least 50% marks and B.Ed. from recognized university. Holders of degree of M.Com. in applied/Business Economics shall not be eligible;
- Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or Sr. Secondary/ Graduation/ Post Graduation with Hindi as one of the subjects.

PGT Economics
- M.A. Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics with at least 50% marks and B.Ed. from recognized university;

PGT Music
- M.A. Music with at least 50% marks and B.Ed from recognized university;

- Matric with Hindi/ Sanskrit or 10+2/ B.A/ M.A. with Hindi as one of the subjects.

PGT Physical Education

HTET Age Limit 2024
To be eligible for the HTET Exam 2024, candidates must be at least 18 years old. A high school pass is the minimum education required for the exam, and there is no upper age limit set by the BSEH. Therefore, candidates are advised to ensure that they fall within the age limit prescribed by the BSEH before applying for the exam. Candidature of those who do not meet the minimum age eligibility criteria will be rejected.
HTET Certificate Validity
The validity of the HTET certificate 2024 has been extended until a lifetime. Earlier, HTET certificate was valid for 7 years from the date of issuance of the certificate. This means, that if a candidate qualifies for the HTET exam 2024, then the validity of the certificate released will be of a lifetime. The candidate will be able to apply for government teaching based on the qualifying Level at any phase of their life. There is no limit on the number of attempts they take to qualify for the exam.
